I've been using the same RCBS press that I bought used about 35-40 years ago.

I bit the bullet today and bought a new RCBS turret press. It goes back Monday. The machining isn't that great and the primer catcher is a joke. This is the first RCBS product that has disappointed me.

I'm guess I'm not that interested in a press that auto inserts primers and meters out powder. I don't really mind seating primers. I have an RCBS Chargemaster 1500, a 10-10 and a couple of other scales.

But I like the idea of a turret. Not real interested in Lee. I don't see me spending the $ and all the changes for a Dillon.

What do you guys think? Lyman, Hornady, Redding?

James, I won't be disappointed very long with it.

The 2 screws that attach the primer slider wouldn't thread in. Just bad machining. The primer catch, being a 2 piece snap together little cup, just doesn't look like it would hold up. And, I despise picking up primers off the floor.

I reload everything from 222 to 45 acp and have a lot of different types of dies. So, I want one that accepts any kind of die without having to buy extra parts.

Get a Forster Co-Ax press. You can change your dies as fast as you can whirl a turret on conventional presses, and the ability of the dies to "float" in the press results in straighter ammunition, thus more accurate ammunition....at least in my hands.

As for priming, I like doing that step with a dedicated hand primer. I have both the RCBS and Lee hand tools; take your pick.

Yep, I also have the RCBS and Lee.

I actually have a couple of other old presses. One is a Lyman Turret and the other an OLD Herters. However, neither accept standard shell holders.

I love my Lee Classic Turret. Fast, easy, and inexspensive. I used a Lyman turret press before i got the Lee CTP. The Lee is hands down better. My Lyman and Rockchucker are gathering dust.

I bought an RCBS Supreme which isn't much different that my ancient one.

6.5, the Harrels intrigues me but I can't see a primer catcher on it. I need that.

Dawaba, I have heard a lot of good things about the Forster. And, I looked hard at it today. I just prefer the simplicity of not using the inserts.

BTW, I really don't think the press makes that much difference when it come to accuracy. Heck, they all work for what they are made to do.

Same here. I've had my Lee Turret for quite a while and find I do more loading on it than my other presses.

To each their own, everyone has their brand preferences. Lots of good ones out there.

Lee CTP here too. I can use the primer thingie pretty well unlike some people but I still prefer that step done off press by hand. The powder drop isn't for everyone but it's good for producing bulk ammo. If you want a very specific drop with the auto disc you can buy blanks and drill the holes to your spec. Mine auto indexes well although people still prefer to manually index. The spent primer catcher actually works unlike some other brands. No tools are required to swap turrets. You can get three, four, or five hole turrets and leave them set up.

Easy to use, add and subtract loading accessories like primer feed and seaters, powder measure, auto indexer, turret discs for the dies, etc. You can set it up as a single stage or semi-progressive (I use it mostly like a single stage, but it's faster due to the die indexing disc).

What inserts? There are no special parts to deal with, with the Forster Co-Ax. I went away from an RCBS turret press I have had for three years, and into a Co-Ax. The Co-Ax is the way to go!

Yeah, there are no inserts whatsoever, or anything that looks or behaves like an insert. Dave D. got some bad info, or maybe he mistook the die locking nut--common to all reloading dies--and guessed they must be proprietary to the Co-Ax system.

FWIW, I also use an RCBS single stage Junior Press. It is set up specifically for .223, which I use a lot for plinking and PD work. Everything else is loaded on the Co-Ax. No matter which press I use, all priming is done with a hand primer seater.

I use RCBS auto progressive and a pardner press for any single stage activities.

I love the fact that i can load pistol ammo up to 200 rounds per hour or manually index my rifle ammo. I have several turrets set up and in less than a minute i can change calibers. The primer feeders work great once you get used to them.

Then forster coax catches 100% of primers. That's half the reason I bought mine.

Lee turret press has a tube to drop the spent primers in a trash can.

One of the best turret press for the money is a Lyman T-mag.
