All parts of the plant are posionous, it might be better to say Texas Mountain Laurel, it has no relationship to the Mountain Laurel of the east other than being posionous. The scientific name is, Sophora secundiflora, most plants in the Sophora family are posionous.

It is absolutely poisonous to humans but its in the booklet of deer browse species as a third choice. If it's in the book it's used some but the book doesn't specify how. I've read about Sambar making use of it while Axis didn't, one source thought sheep and goats utilized it, but it had a question mark.

Good info fellas. Hunting Val Verde County as well I've often wondered what the whitetail eat aside from my free choice protein. Doesn't seem to be much other than cedar, mesquite, and oaks down in the draws.

You can rub the dried beans on the pavement and then touch your skin and it'll burn.

Free tip.

Yep, I remember as a kid, in my grandmothers back yard... older cousin played that trick on me... I taught him the meaning of "payback is hell" lol
