DoubleUp, here's a frame grab/screen grab from a video I took of a doe, lasered range of 108 yards, partial moonlight, doe was standing under an oak tree. No illuminator was used. Since my 5-18 shoots where the crosshairs cross, even after it has been turned on and off and the batteries removed, I would have been confident in taking this shot during deer season, of course, and at legal hour timeframe.(Ignore the date stamp, since I've been messing with batteries and settings on a regular basis through all of my testing.)

I had only used it in the yard and had shined several oak trees over my fence from 150-200yds away, but I could easily see individual leaves on the trees. The night I went hunting I set up under a large oak tree, with overhanging limbs, and tall grass in front of me. A large boar about 175#'s walked by about 50-60yds in front of me and I could barely make him out, due to the extreme auto dimming. I tried focusing the T50, increasing the brightness, it just kept auto-dimming. Like I said I could barely make out the boar, and couldn't see anything past him. I decided to take the shot. I missed. Luckily there was nothing on the other side of the pig. No cows, no horses, no hunters. If the scope hadn't been auto dimming I would have known it. It was a scary feeling after I thought about it. Like I said I knew where the cows were, and I was hunting alone.

I'm buying a thermal, and it won't be an ATN after talking with Sachal for a week in e-mails. He told me the sensor is doing what it's supposed to do. I told him, I hunt in the real world, not from the fairway in the middle of a golf course. Your mileage may vary. Be safe, just remember whats on the other side of the dark.

So had the shot you took would have went ahead and did damage to an unintended target who would have been to blame in this situation? The scope didnt pull the trigger did it? As a responsible hunter it is your responsibility to make sure that safety is number one. Granter the scope was dimming on you but at that point it was time to hang it up and either go home or change to a different means to safely shoot. In a nutshell the irresponsibility lays in your court.
Your welcome to do what you want with ATN or whoever else you decide to in court that is fine, but when you stated the above you showed your true colors. Are you trying to find a reason to prove the scope is unsafe? I dont think so I think your trying to grasp at anything you can to try to prove your case. I really hope you present the above to a court as you will more than likely lose on those grounds alone.

Yes, I took the shot, because I knew where the cows where in that situation. I also knew that there weren't any houses, vehicles, or other animals in the direction or vicinity that I shot. What I am telling you is that the Xsight is an accident waiting to happen in less experienced hands, in a stalking situation. Like I said if your happy with your X sight I'm happy for you. I just buyers should be aware and users should be aware of what the possibilities are before they purchase or pull the trigger. Yes, I know, no one's ever been shot with an empty gun.

Just so you know I used to work for the worlds largest privately owned company. Part of my job was, writing Safety Procedures and Manuals, doing Safety Inspections, teaching Safety Classes, doing accident investigations and implementing ways to keep them from happening again, escorting MSHA Safety Inspectors through the Plant and Mine. So I do know just a little bit about safety.

God Bless

double up be aware. The image you see in the videos is NOT the image you see when looking through the scope. In my experience the videos are beautiful and keep making me want to buy another, but after hunting with several I'll have to wait a bit longer.

I'd have no problem with paying more for this scope if the viewfinder image were clearer and they lost the auto dimming.

mikei, thanks for posting up that photo. Maybe shoots100 or some others will add some video on youtube that can be viewed.

fr3db3ar, thanks for the reminder on the difference between live and Memorex. I remember now reading some time back that image quality had deteriorated from the beta versions that some of the guys were liking last fall.

Here's a daytime screen grab that I made of the execution of a plastic juice bottle full of water at 100 yards. Pretty crisp image, given what all was going on!

As I mentioned several times before, ATN's handling of this whole product roll out/support has been atrocious on many levels. I could not/would not recommend the purchase of either X-Sight at this point in time. But if, and when, ATN ever gets the Sights running the way they were advertised to run, at the current price point, these Sights will be "game changers" in the market. But ATN isn't there yet, and the Sights aren't there yet. I'd recommend that those folks who might be interested in buying an X-Sight to pull up an easy chair, monitor the user comments on different forums, and once the comments start to turn positive, start saving your money for the big buy.

I wish I could attach videos here or anywhere for that matter.
I switched to windows 8 and after many fruitless tries, I gave up trying.
I'm going to download the windows 7 firmware if I can't get 8 working soon !!!
You don't need permission to send me a PM wildone, I'm intrigued at what your trying with the sight.
I get two versions when I record video. One is good quality and one if terrible.
I tried to make it take one video, as it takes up space on the mini SD, but ATN must be working with the windows 8 designer.
I have a good clear view with my scope until I go to max magnification.
Knowing that, I don't go to max magnification.

shoots100, I've tried uploading them to photobucket, and they're still too large to move around the i'net comfortably. There's gotta be a way, 'cause I've seen some of them. I just need to learn how to do it, and hoping someone will hop in here and give us some guidance!

Have you tried uploading them on You tube? I would sure like to see what the scope is doing at night.

Here's one. I'll warn you up front it is unedited and one of my first videos, you might get dizzy watching it. Look for the hogs in the background running by after I shoot. I didn't even know they were there. I got fixated on this one and never panned around. My IR wasn't adjusted quite right, hence the dark corner.

Here is one I didn't shoot, same warning.

Here is a daytime shot on one I trapped. Took 4 shots to bring it down. Darn thing wouldn't hold still long enough to get a decent head shot.

DoubleUp, I've taken a couple of runs at YouTube but cannot seem to make it work. I've downloaded and followed the instructions on "how to" for YouTube, but I get just so far and everything stops! I've changed my firewall settings, my anti-virus settings, and everything else I can think of that might be blocking my efforts, but, thus far, have been unable to get my computer to work it out. I'm certain that it's something that I am doing incorrectly; a setting that's not right; but I'm darned if I can figure it out. I'll make another attempt and see what I can come up with.

Beaubien, thanks for the videos. How far would the hog you shot have been? I'm guessing about 35 yds. but knowing the distance would help some. Also is the focus really sensitive on these scopes?

Mikei, appreciate your efforts. When I upload to youtube, I try to keep my videos short which cuts down on upload time. Mostly I just try to show the kill shot which is almost always a clip of less than 30 seconds. If you don't have a fast connection speed, large files may be impossible for you.

I'm still interested in seeing this scope in action at night, so anyone else with video would be appreciated.

That shot was about 80 yards or so. I have the 5x so it looks a lot closer

Here's a 3-12X video from July 11. The distance is 165 yards.

Well done, DrifterAT! Now, can you teach an old man how make a YouTube clip from his miniSD card? As mentioned in another thread, I can't seem to get the hang of it. Any help would be much appreciated.

BTW, what IR Illuminator were you using on the video clip of the deer?

mikei,

I save the ATN video to my laptop then use Windows Live Movie Maker (included in Windows 7) to prepare it for presentation.

Then from the file tab, "save movie" (pick your format 1080P, 720P, etc) that saves it as a .wmv file.

Once you're logged into youtube, you select the upload button on the top right side.

It's the simplest way to post something in youtube but I'm nowhere near the movie producer some other members are smile

My IR illuminator is the Chinese version of the UNV 20 IR only $150 cheaper. Not as good but a great buy at 30 - 50$. T38 809 mini Hunting Torch Flashlight Night Vision Illumination Long Range 38mm via fleabay.

I'm hunting a funnel at our lease line about 10 yards wide at several points that causes IR bounce from the trees resulting in less light at the target. Nevertheless, still presentable at 165 yards easily.

What I didn't post was the super pig I shot 3 times that I couldn't stop from crossing over to the next property.

Thanks a lot, DrifterAT! Now if I can ever figure out how to log onto YouTube, I'll be a video-producing fanatic! And, thanks for the info on the IR illuminator you're using. From the video, it does look like you're shooting down an alleyway, but it still came out very well. And, on your last point: hogs don't die easy!

Thanks DrifterAT, good work there and very helpful. It appears you prefer the green look over the black and white. Can you tell in difference in what you can see with the black and white view?

DrifterAT, I finally figured it out, with a bit of guidance from you. I was trying make it too difficult. For some reason, I thought that there was some critical combination of codes and a secret decoder ring that I had to use to get my videos to load onto YouTube! Thanks a lot for your help!!

DoubleUp - The daytime scope view and recording function is so much better than the NV!

I prefer the green but tried using the black and white at this location but the bleed over from the trees didn't give me the view I felt I needed to make a shot. A couple of weeks ago, I had an 80% white and 20% black spotted Boar come out but I was unable to see him until he totally cleared the bushes. Then I couldn't tell which end was which when he had his head down eating the corn. Oh, and his eyes didn't reflect like the green either. And I forgot to turn on video frown

I've decided to move my tripod to about 100-125 yards instead of 165 yards since I'm only hunting pigs when the wind is in my favor. This will eliminate some of the bleed over caused by the trees next to my shooting lane. There is a shooter Axis buck (gold medal) showing up there but Axis don't spook as easy as WTD.

DrifterAT, I remember THH, posting that as well, plus he felt the view through the scope was much poorer than looking at the video on night shots. Have you also found that to be true?

In your deer video there was another animal that kept reflecting eyes farther back. Any idea how far that might have been?

To my eye, what I see in the scope (NV) is what I'm capturing on video. Those were raccoon behind the hog about 10-15 yards back. Too many trees at that shooting lane spot to obtain a better NV view. My UNV20-IR on my x-sight 5-18X gives me a few yards more visibility at that spot because I can focus the beam a little better.

One thing for sure, on the forum x-sight discussions, our x-sight scopes seem to have slight differences.

I've taken down 5 hogs, missed 4, and 2 were hit but crossed over to the other property. I'd say the x-sight is putting me in a position to take a shot but my old tired eyes are crap smile

My daughter with no NV, had taken down 4 hogs with 3 shots. Go figure!
