I've been doing this long enough to bridle my optimism regarding the prospects of the upcoming season. Especially six weeks out.
However, up here in North Texas, I'm seeing fantastic numbers of white wing, mourning, and ring neck dove. The record rains of May downed a big bunch of the wheat harvest. The result is a veritable buffet of bird seed littered across the region. No joke, I bet I have a thousand birds on the ground around my pond right now.
With this many birds this early in the summer there's a good chance we will get another clutch produced. Imagine doubling their numbers before the season opener.
Borrowing some incredible natural disaster, I'm here to tell you, a bunch of you will be getting limits in less than 15 minutes this year. There are just that many birds...

I believe that mourning doves can pull off a hatch every 4 weeks and collared doves every 6 weeks. White wing generally pull off 2 hatches 6 weeks apart. Collared doves can match mourning doves in reproduction because they breed year around and mourning doves don't.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

We will get a big storm right before the opener, it will scatter all the birds south to Mexico.

Seeing tons of WW here, I do every year but they generally leave before season start. Hopefully with all the food and water they stick around this year.

Seems like this happens every year!
Arise.Kill.Eat -Acts 10:13 I have read a bunch of stuff on the internet about Star Wars but that does not mean I can skin a deer with a light saber.

We will get a big storm right before the opener, it will scatter all the birds south to Mexico. Seeing tons of WW here, I do every year but they generally leave before season start. Hopefully with all the food and water they stick around this year. I'm betting there is a tidal of wave of dove breeding/feeding in the states North of us. They were hit by the same rains thus downing some wheat. Like I said, I wouldn't normally be so optimistic this early in the year but I'm seeing a ton of birds on my place. Even if we get an early cold front it will simply push down the birds North of us. And, during the drought we haven't had a lot of milo planted in our area. It was wet enough I'm seeing waist high milo heading out in the fields. It should be ready for harvest the beginning of September. It is shaping up to be the perfect storm of dove hunting this year...

NOTICE:
I am not an outfitter or a guide. I simply enjoy dove hunting with my kids and friends and am blessed to be in dove country. This is nothing more than me providing a friendly heads-up on what I'm seeing up here along the Red River.
No, I don't have the contact info for the outfitters or day hunt operations up here. They are around the area but I've never had avail myself of their services and I can't recommend one. I'd recommend checking out the outfitters section on here.

Any suggestions of good people to deal with trying to schedule an opening weekend hunt? Just have a group of good guys (6-8) that all work together looking to get out have a good, responsible time without being raked over the coal from bad "guides or people". Our office is in Grand Prairie, with most of us living north-northwest in Tarrant/Denton/Dallas County so an hour or so drive from the messo-plex would be ideal. Any suggestions or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

White wing numbers are building around Beasley. As soon as the milo crop ripens, look out!

Doves are going crazy in my wild sunflowers at Canyon Lake. This area has been primarily mourning doves, but the Whitewings have found the sunflowers!

I used to plant my milo the day before the season opener, but the birds ate it all before it had a chance to grow.
