I don't think I'm gonna have the time in August to get ready for this one. I can maybe cook some burgers and dogs though

Not worried about a cutoff. Too many people seem intimidated by the shooting and/ or the weather. I doubt it will be a very big match. The way it's looking it may get canceled due to lack of participation.

I was just thinking about the last shoot, we stood around allot while others shot, which in February was no big deal and a great learning experience for me...... but out in the sun in 100 degree heat, heck I would need a few bags of Ringers IV PUSH !!! I'm old and fat. The next weekend dove shooting, I'm always sittin in the shade, so I can survive.

Now, I would love to sit on your tower and see if I can hit the "gong" at various ranges, gladly donate moderate funds for the privilege. Even supply your frosty beverages for after. cheers

There is no way to avoid standing waiting to shoot. That is just how matches are. I am setting up the stages so we are in the sun only until 10 a.m. (latest) and in the shade the rest of the day. Most stages will be shot on or just beside the platform.

maybe the target audience on the THF probably IS intimidated with this type of match. Remember you are not targeting George Gardner, Jacob Bynum and that class of shooter except for you and Chad. It's normal guys who like to shoot and don't get a chance to shoot at 800+ very often but like a little friendly competition.
$75 is a little steep for some, not having a basic course of fire, re; ranges and target sizes for those ranges, plus 100+ round count may be allot.

Just some thoughts from a normal guy who loves to shoot long range with other normal guys. Like the hunting match, just longer ranges.

I told everyone what to prepate for. I am making the targets significantly larger that what "we" would normally shoot, and the time limits generous.

$75 aint chit. I entered $300 for the Heatstroke Open this month. My land payment is $830 EVERY month, imsurance is $800 for the year, I spent an hour mowing the range and 8 gallons of diesel today, and guess what, I will again before this match. Spent all day Monday repairing targets. Still have to rebuild the 100 yard berm, since it gets pounded all year. Have course of fire to finalize and print for everyone, move targets, and replace them when it's over. Have to build another barricade before the match. 100 rounds was a preliminary number for people to prepare for, not the final final number. You're coming to shoot not save ammo aren't you?

You still think $75 a head is steep?

Again, I told everyone what they needed to know. I cannot think of one single precision match out of 5 years of shooting them that I have been told the COF before hand. Show up, know your chit, amd rock on as best you can. When a stage arrives that you were completely unprepared for then learn a lesson and prepare for it for next time.

How are the stages normally scored? Hits vs time? Hits only? Hits/group size?

I'm sure you don't want a lot of newbs on the range who are unsure of shooting at 800 yards.
How many shooters do you have, vs how many you need to run the match?

FWIW, I think $75 is a bargain considering we get to shoot stages most of us would likely never get to shoot otherwise. Plus there is also have the camaraderie and the learning opportunity. The heat might be a detractor for fat fellers like me. I am out of town that weekend or would be there trying to apply what Jason has taught me. If my schedule changes, I'm in.

A buddy of mine just invited me on a fishing trip in Canada that weekend... I'm going to have to miss it. cry

$75 bucks is CHEAP! I guarantee you won't find any other shooting competitions with similar stages for $75.

Sorry I can't make it out Jason, hope y'all have a great day of shooting!

A hit is a hit. Any you make in the par time are added to your total. Group shooting is for bench rest, this aint bench rest. Once a taget is hit, move on. If you're not done shooting within par time, tough, but don't sweat it. If you make all your shots before time is up, good for you.

Two have said they were in, but nothing has arrived in the mail. I'll run it if I have ten. Less than that, and it'll be canceled.

I hope to be able to get there. I am waiting for my schedule to firm up. I am going in with low expectations. I know that a) a 223 will struggle b) I don't have acces to a range over 200 and c) I am not used to the clock. But reson a, b, and c is exactly why I want to do this, to learn.

75 is higher than I would pay to shoot For a day, but I know that fireman is taking time out of his schedule to do this and should rightfully be compensated. This is not a daily shoot. Hell a round of golf costs more

So, shooter sends $75 and you have 8 shooters, cancel match, will shooter get his $75 back?

I said $75 is steep for "some", not all. I think its fine especially when you spend the time and money preparing and repairing the range,

I think $75 is fine. I'm really wanting to get my bees lined up so I can make it, but it ain't looking good. What's the latest we can pay? It may be the week before the match before I know for sure.

Really, Buzz? Of course everyone is refunded.

You can pay up to a few days before the match. Not a big crowd and no shirts so it's easier to push it closer.

Okay, okay.....8 pages of messages is too much to waste and not have a shoot! Check going out. I was dead last in Feb., if I do it again I'll consider it the start of a tradition! Also, anyone that beats me (should be a bunch!) gets a free beer....on Jason!
