Only a few months left till fall, I figured I'd start a thread on quality boots for those of us who aren't able to dump 4-5 hundred bucks on boots, say under 200, All opinions welcome.

What size do you wear? If 10-1/2 D shoot me a PM. I may have a deal for you on a pair of Chippewas.

Been around a ton of foot gear- some good, most... not so good!
Most everything has shown up in Elk Camp here. A couple of questions.
Hiking? What type of terrain, moisture?
Still or stand hunting? What is the temp. range?
Do you consider yourself warmblooded or coldblooded? LOL!!

Danner has a boot for whatever your need is. Danner Breakroom always has deals. Can't go wrong.

Pronghorn is the best hunting boot I've ever owned. Another vote for Danner. I've worn them Elk hunting in NM, Muley hunting in Nebraska in sub 0 weather, and WT hunting here. Great all around boot.

I'm also looking into some boots so it might help out the OP, who knows? I'm planning going on the upcoming DIY elk hunting trip. Most of yall are pointing at the Pronghorns, but how do you decide on what gram boot to get? Obviously the higher the gram, the better for cold, but whats a good "gram number to temp" range?

I have some Danners that I love not sure which model they were around $170 with the 400 insulation which is good for New Mexico or Colorado where its not extremely cold during Elk season. I had barely worn them before going rifle elk last year which is not recommended because they werent broken in, we walked 10-15 miles the first day and my whole body hurt but my feet stayed pretty comfortable throughout the trip. It would have been a nightmare had I not had good boots.

I just picked up a pair of the Danner Eight Ridge 8" from Gander Mountain, they are normally $239.00 on sale for $99.00. I have gone on 2 4 mile hikes and they feel great. I bought them for Elk hunting in the Weimanuche wilderness in October.

A buddy of mine is about to start his 18th year of hard hunting in his original pair of Danner Elk Hunters. He does an occasional treatment of Neatsfoot Oil and claims that his feet have NEVER been wet or uncomfortable in them. They are still in great shape. It was enough for me to try - my pair came in last week. I love The Breakroom, but they never had the Elk Hunters in my size. I ordered my direct from Danner (actually, my buddy was at the plant in Oregon, paid for them, and had them shipped to me.) They shipped for free.

My past boots are Lacrosse Quad Comfort lace up work boots. I can't do insulated boots, my feet sweat like crazy, so wool socks and non-insulated boots for me. They have been great for the past 6 years or so, but the soles are starting to tear up.

My wife LOVES her Danner Pronghorns - she said that she will never wear another boot...

Although priced at $300 I really like Cabela's "Perfekt" boots by Meindl. I also have the recent Danner Pronghorns and much prefer the Perfekt.

Perfekt

I second this assessment. I purchased a pair last fall and they are the best pair of boots I have ever worn. They were on my feet last year during my white-tail and mule deer hunts in the Panhandle as well as this coming fall for my mule deer hunt in New Mexico. They are so comfortable, in fact, that I wear them every day in my hiking around for work.
