Rut at the place I hunt is right around end of October to first week of November where I have been hunting for 12 years in Eastland County. Some parts though it is nearer Thanksgiving. Lee Dycus is the GW for Eastland County. Here is a link to the TPWD find a game warden by county link with Eastland info https://tpwd.texas.gov/warden/index.phtml?county=EASTLAND&display=true

Last year seemed earlier than usual near Carbon. Closer to the beginning of Nov rather than the week before Thanksgiving.

Peak rut has been around the first two weeks of November. We have had our place since 1989 and we are near Lake Leon
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

Peak rut has been around the first two weeks of November. We have had our place since 1989 and we are near Lake Leon This, same as Erath. After Thanksgiving your chances drop dramatically around here. It's like the bucks just vanish.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

We hunt just over the county line in Stephens county. Rut is typically the two weeks before thanksgiving. We have a very different experience than erathkid .... our bucks disappear during the rut with our best hunting occurring during the cold fronts post-rut.

A lot will depend on the herd mix. If you have a 1 buck to 3 doe or better (1-2 or 1-1) you will see a lot of chasing (and catching)starting as early as the last week of October and stretching into around Thanksgiving. If your population is more of a mix like some of the Hill Country area (1 - 4,5,6 or more) you'll most likely see the chasing starting around the 1st of November and lasting a week or two until the majority of the does come in to estrus. As a buck locks down with a doe, he'll disappear for a day or so, then find another and repeat. After the rut is over, some bucks will continue to look and some will just crawl into the bush to recover. Some of those 'bush-bucks' will be found the next spring. About midway through December they start coming back out piling on the food trying to fatten up for January/February.
There may also be a 'second' rut in some of the areas with high doe density where does that didn't get caught the first time will come back into estrus around the end of December.
This all varies according to population densities, make-up and many other factors.

just got back from the lease. we are completely covered up in broom grass. it is waist and even chest deep on 80% of the property. ridges are the only areas not covered up in the stuff. we had some 3 years ago, but this year s terrible. I can't see deer walking through this stuff. I AM CONCERNED!
any one seen it this bad before ... and any ideas abut the effect on deer movement?

Broom weed is bad this year. I need to mow around the feeders. It gives fawns good cover though.

Good info. Just signed up on a new lease for me just north of Eastland. Have a lot of work to do before the season.

Broom weed is bad this year. I need to mow around the feeders. It gives fawns good cover though. I live in NE Eastland county - agree the broom weed is thick and high. The rains in May were great, filled my tanks but also caused all the growth. Shred it once and it doesn't grow back. Didn't see any broom weed last year in the drought. The deer right now are in the brown phase - easy to see among all the green everything else. The rut - last year I first saw bucks chasing does the 3rd week of October, lasting for about 3 weeks. Seemed early but that's how it was.
Past performance is the best predictor of future behavior.

i just recently purchased my property. Pictures from the previous owner from the last 7 years showed low to the ground grass. As I have only had this property for 2'weeks now I'm curious the latest I need to shred before season.
What is this stuff ? Is it broom grass?
