I watched for them this weekend but I didn't see any. I had hens coming to the feeder alone. Last year we were already seeing them by now.

I have seen one hen with 3 on my place and one hen on the highway close by with a couple also, but the grass is so tall they can hide quickly if they hear me first. I have seen quite a few hens alone though also in more open areas.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Rain is usually a good thing in the spring, but with all the excess rain so far this season there has been a lot of failed nesting attempts...at least that's been the situation in east Texas according to biologist Jason Hardin.Too much moisture increases the scent of nesting hens which increases nest predation. This may be one of the primary reasons we're seeing so many hens without poults right now

Saw a lone hen loaded down with poults one morning last week along a busy road near my house. I was going too fast to get a good count or picture. This was north of SA right across from Camp Stanley... Unfortunately I hunt 3 hours further west.

I have seen 4 hens with small numbers of poults each, ranging from 3 to 7 but I fear that the crows have found several hens on nest and have proceeded to break all the eggs.

Ha. I finally saw some. They must have been hiding out for a while because they look like they have grown some.

Does anyone know if hens will attempt to nest more than once if they are unsuccessful?

Does anyone know if hens will attempt to nest more than once if they are unsuccessful? Sure they will. A hen will attempt to nests several for times if the first attempt fails. A friend who's researching the eastern turkeys released in Anderson county last year said a hen just recently hatched out 7 poults on her third nesting attempt.

I sure hope they knew to nest 6 feet above any creek on high ground or most were lost on our place.

I saw two hens with 12-15 poults last week north of Menard. Should be a bumper crop this year!

Saw two hens and about 20 poults last weekend south of Abilene.

Seen a hen today Aug. 5 with seven about the size of sparrows.
I can make 'em go! and I can make 'em whoa! God makes 'em DO! I carry the gun and blow the whistle.

In Kendall county we have had a banner year for turkey. In the past few weeks while axis hunting I have had as many as 100 turkeys coming to the feeder, with more than half of them poults. Normally in the past few years, we have had only small groups of usually 3-8 birds. with a max of about a dozen and half. This year, we are covered up.
And the other thing I noticed - is that our hens must have had 2-3 hatches, because I see poults of 3 different sizes - the youngest a few weeks ago were only a few inches tall - mixed in with poults that are 3/4 full grown. (see pics above) It's crazy!

I was concerned about them as most of our place flooded but we had a couple hatchings because I've seen them the size of quail and the size of chickens together over the last couple weeks. As far as I know which ain't far but a turkey will continue to try to breed basically until she does. It would not be that unusual on a bad year for them to breed deep into the summer. I have seen them in October that were chicken size.
