I'm encouraged by the evidence of deer and hog on my trail cams this past weekend so I'm going to add a few new feeders to our new property. I don't have the $ to buy, so I'll be building my own again. I like the feeder motors I have now but I see flaws in them. What is your favorite feeder motor and why!

I'm personally not sure what I like best yet. I like the idea of the Sun slinger since its all self contained and at a good price point

Based on hard-earned experience, and lots of talking to other folks, my go-to setup is a 12V motor in a galvanized housing with "the Timer" and a box-mounted solar panel with no exposed wires. This setup has proven to "just plain work" year after year and the warranty on "the Timer" can't be beat.
Top it with either a square gate-plate spinner, or "Eliminator" plate if coons/cows are a problem.
You can spend less up front, but you wind up spending all that and more down the road. Do it right the first time and rest easy that it will go off on time, every time.

But since you can't live far I'd go to the bucee's at 290 and 362 and pick up the all seasons. They are CHEAP there compared to every where else and come highly recommended.

Go with a larger motor not the .50 cent size in the long run you will be happier, I built quite a few myself on a budget, I understand.

I'm personally not sure what I like best yet. I like the idea of the Sun slinger since its all self contained and at a good price point I wold have to say Sunslinger as well (caveat, never personally used a 12v system) I have a sunslinger that I bought in 2002 iirc, has ran non-stop. I have had to add a new solar panel and replaced the motor at about 10 years. I have friends that have Sunslingers that are older than mine. I had considered a 12v when we where on a lease (14 of us) The guys with the 12v loved the power, but changed to the sunslinger for easier maintenance. Like I said, I never used a 12v, haven't needed to venture into it, I just took what the other member liked and went with it. Been a great decision so far and I will be buying another sunslinger for a new spot soon.
