Sunday, Steve and I loaded up the camera and drove to Justiceburg, TX to visit with Big Game Hunting Legends, Riley Miller and J. Martin Bassinger. The pups are 86 and have been hunting together since 1951. They have genuinely Traveled thousands upon thousands of miles, in a pickup, horseback or a foot chasing lion, bear, bobcats and coons from the South Plains across most of the Southwest.
After visiting for a couple of hours, Riley wanted to show us some of his dogs and horses. After looking at his long eared trailing hounds, we moved to the corrals. Riley loves Appaloosa horses or at least quarterhorses with the white blankets over their rumps.
After looking at his beautiful gray stallion, we moved down to check on an old black mare that was due to foal. To everyone's shock, especially Riley's we found a colt lying in the grass near its Mama. The colt raised his black head and as he stood, revealed a beautiful white blanket with big black spots on it. Riley had been trying to breed a colt with this classic Appaloosa color for over 50 years and we found him that morning. Riley shook his head and said, "I have been trying to breed that horse for over 50 years and now that I have him, am too old to ride". What a Blessing!
Adios,
Gary

Dale Lee, youngest of the famous Lee Brothers spent several weeks in Texas with Riley Miller on his ranch in Justiceburg. When Mr. Lee passed away, Riley was given the photo albums of over 50 years of outfitting by the Lee Brothers from Tucson, AZ. Riley wrote a book, COLD TRAIL which is a compilation of many of these classic big game hunting photos. If you are a fan of lions, jaguar, horses, hounds and old cowboys from the great Southwest, this is a must read.
You can purchase them online from Rim Rock Publishing, Justiceburg, TX.
Adios,
Gary
