My first time owning a couple of Brittany pups... the oldest is now 10 months old... just wanted to check and see if you are supposed to lightly see their ribs on the side of body? I asked vet and he told me that sport dogs are like that, and lean, and is healthy, but wanted to get a 2nd opinion from everyone out there... i feed him twice a day about a cup each time of dogfood

Sounds about right, seems until my Brit got to be 6 years old it didn't matter how much I fed him he was stay skinny or seemed so compared to lots of dogs. They are high energy and run about everything they eat off.

Mine eats about 3 cups a day and can leave it out for him free choice and that is still what he eats. Yout mileage may vary

I have seven, all are beautiful examples of the breed but they are all shaped just a little different. The three females, (daughter, mother & grandmother) are all built different. All eat the same amount of food (about two and a half cups, once a day) and all exercise the same amount. The four boys are the same way (dad, two sibling pups and Bleu) all different shapes and sizes. And yes, one of them has always been skinny (D.O.G.) he gets more like 4 cups a day and just wont put on any weight. He still looks good, he's just a bit thinner, his brother (Punkin) was sold as a pup then due to a crazy work schedule, he had to re-home him so I took him back. He was a little overweight and it has been hard getting the weight off of him. If the vet has checked them and said all is good, I wouldn't worry about it.

My 6 yo female Britt has a nice hourglass shape. Only feed 2 cups of Purina one once a day. As a young pup she was a finicky eater. As she got older, she started eaing better. We fed Purina Pro plan to her and my GSP. But had to take the Britt off of the hi pro food during the off season. She put on too much weight. I even cut the daily ration way down, it didn't help. I can't imagine leaving food out for free choice for her. She would turn into El Gordo.
