Anybody got any palm fronds that need to be trimmed? I think this is what Guy used on his blind and they made a pretty good camo job. That or I need to go cut some bamboo like Wayne did.

I'm not sure where you are located but if you can find some palmettos, they work very well. They cover a lot more area than bamboo and they block the wind really well if you don't have a blind with walls. Also the little leaves on bamboo fall off and your are stuck witn a bunch of sticks on the outside of your blind. I usually do a real thick base layer on all of my blinds with palmettos and then add fresh stuff through out the year likes reeds or cane.
I'm with GK because I like salty old dudes.

There is only one texas palm where the fronds are worth messing with, it is the big ones with the thorns on the stem. They work nice, but a lot of work, not sure it is worth it. I had a neigbor where I used to live had about 10 of those palms, they would trim once a year and I would be there ready. I would load them up, take them to my house, trim the thorns off the stem, cut stem right length, drill holes in stem so the could be installed onto the blind with screws (otherwise stem will split), haul them to my lease, and install them one at a time like roof shingles. If they lasted more than one season it would be worth while, going into second season about 50% would be disintegrated, and would require adding more each season. I would look for natural camo on your property where the blind will be, that way you do not need to haul camo, and easy to add to it each year. I have a lot of cedar on my lease, so I been using that last few year. Just lay cedar on it and wire to hold it on. Plus fronds required screws into the blind which is not good for the blind. See old fronds with new on top... Switch to cedar... Last season, don't think I added any more to it...

Sounds good. cedar isn't too hard to come by along with bamboo to get some height on there. Thanks.

Be careful with bamboo, if it roots you're in trouble.

Will trade pick up bed load of palm fronds for December duck hunt. You will need to come to Denton to pick them up. Will be heading down to South Texas this weekend and coming back on Monday.
These are not from the small palmettos but from the big Texas Sabals. No thorns on the stems (the ones with the thorns are the Mexican Fan Palms).
PM if interested.
