Yesterday I won a winchester model 70 super grade in 280 rem. It is marked 1 of 500. It is brand new unfired in the box. My question is do I keep as is and put in the safe for safe keeping. Do I add scope and use, or should I sell it? Don't really hunt a lot but do love to shoot. What would you do?

Sell it if you don't plan on wearing it out. Rifles are tools. No more no less.

Agreed.

Could also use the money to build a semi-custom that you would shoot more often. The value of a Super Grade will get you way down the road in parts for your build.

What would I do? screw a Trijicon on top of it and go kill stuff with it. If that wasn't your first thought when you picked it up..... you, my friend, need a realignment of priorities.

Don't scope it. Don't shoot it.

Sell it on the classifieds here or on gunbroker.com.

Without question, I'd sell it and buy something I really wanted to use.

If it were just about anything other than a Model 70 in .280 (I've been wanting both for a while), I'd sell it. BUT, both the rifle and the caliber are great. All I can say is go with your gut.

I concur; great advice.

I'd sell it. I have no need for a pretty $2500 hunting rifle.

I have a Mod. 70 Super Grade in .270 Win. and have taken 2 deer and a hog with it so far. It's a shooter for sure.

If I had one in .280, I'd hunt with it.

That's me, though.

Congratulations on your win!

Keep it if you think you'll use it. Otherwise - Trade Bait for something you DO want. And what you want need NOT be a firearm (can't believe I said that)

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

Were you aware that Winchester is making a limited run of M70 FWTs in 280 this year?

I personally wouldn't get rid of that gun, but I love M70 supergrades. I shoot all my firearms.

Unless you have a "must have" on your list, I'd sit on it for a few years until #'s 2 through 500 have been shot. Its' stock will go up.

Yes, but I don't wanna spend the money to buy one! If I won one I'd keep it though. If they made it in the plain Sporter I'd be all over one.

I've thought about it a lot, talked about it a lot and I think I'm going to keep it. Mount a really nice leupold scope on it and use it as it is intended to be used.

That is what I would do. But I have entered every raffle that them kids outside of Walmart and at the feed store offer, and I haven't won squat. Congrats
I have an octagon barrel Browning that is crazy beautiful. It goes to the blind a few time every year. It was a gift and I insist on using it, and one of my daughters will get it someday.

Congratulations on your very unique winning!

our youth shooting team just received one of these rifles that we'll fixing to sell. These rifles are nice, no wonder they're Super Grade.
Winchester makes Super Grades in different calibers but these 500 .280 caliber rifles were only made for the MidwayUSA Foundation for teams to raise money. MidwayUSA aka The Potterfiels are huge supporters for youth shooting teams.

You won it in a raffle and that's awesome. BUT would you ever be able to replace that rifle? the answer is "NO". I say keep it, I wouldn't use it much, and save your money to buy another rifle that you'll use on a regular basis.

Congratulations! I would keep it and use it as you have decided to do. Excellent rifle in a DRT caliber.
