So, After a month of suffering through rainy weather and various priorities, I finally got out again to hunt for hogs. Tuesday evening my buddy and I spotted a couple, but we couldn't get close enough for a good shot before they disappeared into the trees. We decided against staying out late in favor of getting up early for a morning hunt. Wednesday the alarm went off at five ayem, and he got up to do some work stuff while I took off in search of hogs. I didn't see any before daylight, but about a quarter after six I saw a small group a few hundred yards away. I sneaked along the fence line and got to within about 50 yards of them. That's my kind of shooting! I don't even attempt to give the hogs a sporting chance, I take advantage of every option I can. So this sow was facing generally toward me, and at 50 yards even I have a hard time missing.
aim

I shot her straight in the head, just below the eyes. She went down immediately.

That evening I went out again, and spotted this 100# sow about a half-hour before sundown. She was in some tall grass, and at times I couldn't see her. When she was visible, I could only see her back, and sometimes her head when she lifted it up. Again I managed to get to within about 50 yard, but because I didn't have complete visibility, I passed on the head shot and put a bullet centered in her shoulders. Again, the hog dropped instantly.

Thursday morning I slept in, and then got busy cutting up and trimming the meat. I typically just skin them and take the let quarters and backstraps. Trimming consists of cutting off some fat and removing the forelegs so the shoulders and hindquarters will fit on my smoker. That's where three of the shoulders are at this moment. The property owner only wanted one shoulder, so the four hindquarters will go into the freezer for another time.

I think my poor little Photon NV scope is starting to feel neglected . . .
The hogs just keep showing up in daylight, and I can only clean so many. As the summer goes on and the weather gets hotter, I expect it'll get it's turn soon enough.
