Where can I purchase 55 gal feeder quality barrels in the DFW area? I'm actually north of DFW but figure there's a better shot at finding some in the metroplex.

Academy should have them, though the price will be high. I used to get them from a barrel manufacturer in Houston. It's possible, though not too likely, that there's a barrel marketer in DFW. The people in Houston made them at their plant, so they'd sell me drums that didn't make spec, so they'd be cheap ($10). Also, google up OnTime Feeders and they'll ship to you. What I don't know is where their price is versus Academy. My 30 gallon barrels have held up over the years, but the tops will rust out, so I get them from OnTime.

I assume that you'll want the type drum that has the open top, rather than having to cut out the top yourself.

I bought some like this in Houston for my feeders.

Thanks for the ideas. I know Fultons. I've taken metal there for recycling.

It took me less than 2 minutes to google DFW food grade barrels and come up with this http://www.texasbarrelsupply.com/. Every major metropolitian area has several barrel recycling companies.

It took me less than two minutes also. I've emailed them three times to get their location so I can purchase some and pick them up but I have not received a reply. That's why I'm seeking some ideas.

Try calling them 214-784-6604 or 903-885-1110 I've sometimes found that whoever is supposed to be answering emails at a business can get lax especially on small orders. Things sometimes change when you get a live person on the line.

There is another place just west of Fultons on the same side of the road, this place sells steel. I have seen plastic and metal barrels with or wo lids.

The two 903 numbers for Texas Barrel Supply are disconnected. The 214# is a cell phone with a mailbox that is full. Fulton's in Denton has some with lids for $24. I'm going to go by there tomorrow. Thanks to everybody for the input.
