I drove it around and used the Road Boss grader on the gravel roads. That thing is awesome for the gravel roads. It didn't work so good on the dirt roads that were in bad shape though. I guess the Road Boss works best for maintaining roads.

It takes a few cuts to bring back an old road but yeah the levelers work best on maintained roads..

Was there grass in the old roads and not letting it cut?

it is too late since you already bought it and since you said "ranch work" this should not be an issue for you

but for others I am not sure about the Deutz, but on some Euro tractors you have to watch if you are going to row crop with them because you cannot adjust the wheel/tire spacing

this is the case on many Fendt tractors which are very good tractors, but not always speced for American row cropping

again I am not sure if you can adjust the wheel spacing on the Deutz or not, but if anyone ever looks at A Fendt for row cropping keep that in mind

otherwise that should be a very good tractor if you have a dealer close by which is always important

The roads that it didn't work well on were more of a wagon trail than a road. They were just tire tracks worn down to dirt with grass growing between them.

What do you think would work best to improve those? A box blade with rippers to bust it up or a rear blade to scrape them smooth?

Box blade with rippers down would work best but you could also mow and spray the road then the grader should be able to cut... Those graders usually work best right after a decent rain... not a flood but just enough to loosen things up..

You could also disc it then level it.. bad thing is with the blading type equipment it wont bring the dirt back to the middle of the road so run off likes to travel on it too. I use a boxblade on my road and just hit it after every rain.

You can adjust the width with the hubs on most Same/Deutz tractors
