Furthest I've shot is 400 and knew I had some bad habits that I've picked up along the way. I'd read the reviews and knew I wanted some sort of training that'll help me to get out there.

Went yesterday. Jason knows his stuff. He also does PRS type competitions so he tailored part of the instruction towards that as that is the route I want to go.

Basic whiteboard stuff to start. As my buddy was shooting Win factory ammo for the 6.5 Creedmoor and I was shooting hand loads that mimicked his own, there wasn't really a need to chrono. He is set up to do so if you don't know your speed. Next part was confirming dope out to 800 on 2 MOA steel plates.

Next we did 200-700 on 1 MOA plates (just confirmed dope) and adjusting for wind.

When we did that and confidence level is high, we zeroed out elevation and windage and did 200-700 1 MOA steel plates using reticle only. I have a PST with a 2C reticle. I did this with ease (almost too easy with this reticle). My buddy with a traditional mil reticle had greater difficulty past 500 because of his reticle.

I cannot speak enough good stuff about Jason and his class. We learned a lot and by the end of the day, our confidence in our equipment, ammo and ourselves as shooters was pretty high. I know I have lots more to learn and he is working up a syllabus for V2 of our training and my buddy and I will go again for more challenging stuff.

Yall made a giant leap in improvement from morning to afternoon. I always enjoy gettig guys hooked on shooting smaller and farther. Now 300-400 yards is probably no big deal for yall. I enjoyed having yall out and appreciate the kind review.

Class two will involve having to think fast, shoot and cycle fast, and getting into some positional shooting.

Say when. smile

I let him shoot my HEAVY barrel and APA Fat Bastard braked 223 Rem. We were taking solid shots at 700 yards with a 75gr Amax. No recoil on that bad boy and you can shoot hundreds of rounds and not feel a thing.

That happened to you too?? I shot my LR308 all day long at his class and he sat down behind it and all the sudden it became a jamomatic. If you could limp wrist a rifle he is the king of that with AR's they just don't like him.

Judd, I think this is for you...I hope...or perhaps KRoyal? grin

JG is a good teacher but I had to throw in the AR jamomatic part just to keep his ego in check. banana2

I zeroed the irons on my AR last Wednesday and it ran just fine. Maybe that bad juju finally fell off.

I'm pretty sure it was for me...the richardhead text I received was the dead giveaway rofl

JG - maybe you've just built your wrist muscles up, I heard there was a lotion and tissue shortage in Anna...that explains your AR misfeeds.

OKAY...JG do not read past here....

On a serious note JG is a buddy of mine and we love to give each other copious amounts or crap....but he is dang good at this rifle teaching stuff and he enjoys it. He enjoys seeing someone he taught hammer that steel as if he was sitting behind the gun pulling the trigger himself. If you are new to shooting rifles or even a seasoned veteran...I'm confident Jason can show you something you didn't realize was going on. Plus, he has a dang nice place to shoot and is fun to hang out with. So it really is a no lose situation to take the class.

Not next week. The one after I do.

Be good and hot with plenty of mirage to fight through. grin

I cut down two trees this afternoon, right by the 800 target. Boom! In the sunshine. Be lots easier to spot out there now.

We were only able to see half of the 800 yard 2 MOA target. If there was a 1 MOA target, it wasn't visible. Would have liked to try and hit that with the 223.

Despite standing water all over the range (3/4" of rain last night bang) I was able to get the tractor out to mow just enough to get the grass out of the way that was covering the lower half of the 800.

There is no 1 MOA steel at 800. It is marked and waiting for me to cut it.

I think you need a 1/2 MOA steel target at 800 as well for a final test reticle holds only smile
