Pulled the trail cameras yesterday and went though the pictures. I have a ton of does coming into the feeder but only 1 velvet buck who looks to be a 6 point.

Just curious as to reason why the bucks aren't hitting the feeder? Last year we had 3 or 4 frequent bucks who were smaller that should have made it through the season.

Plenty of natural groceries this year are keeping the bucks happy where they don't need to go far to eat. the doe are dropping/have dropped their fawns and need all the extra they can give them so they are eating as much as they can. Will probably flip a little before deer season as the bucks start showing some dominance and take over the feed pens.

If I was an old buck, I wouldn't want to hang around a feeder and a bunch of squabbling womens, younger bucks sure. I also dont think bucks will exert as much energy this time of year, so may nt want to travel to the feeder consistently.

BTW, I love seeing mature bucks at my feeder anytime, but if I got the ladies dialed in, I know the old boys will be here come rut.

Last year the bucks needed it at this time and this year they don't. Just be patient, if you feed them they will come.....eventually. up

I call this one "Ladies Night"

(Yes, I know there is one small buck at the far left - but he identifies as female. I call him "Caitlyn")

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Bucks will often change their routines and even their ranges between now and hunting season. Besides, if you've got the does then you should have the bucks by the time it really matters.

Rainfall this year has had a lot to do with deer routine and activity.

I was out at the lease this weekend. Out of the 6 bucks I saw around the property 4 of them were shooters and 3 were 20+ wide. I saw lots of does also.

Bucks are in bachelor groups right now. Could be the bachelor group is hanging out elsewhere. But, later this fall they will break up and disperse. Don't worry, they will be back.

I usually have no bucks until the end of August. This year I have a group of 6 bucks that come to eat in the fields at about 8:30 pm every day. They don't care there is a feeder 100 yards away. The does and fawns go to the feeder.

absolutely no need for a deer to be standing at a feeder right now. The amount of browse available is ridiculous. In fact I would much prefer my bucks to be out all day browsing (ingesting protein) versus standing at a feeder for a few minutes. They can lay up, then stand up, turn left or right and eat whatever they want right now. The habitat is at its top end.
