Anyone have a source for snake shot? Can't find it online or local stores. I guess CCI makes random runs of it.

Either 44 or 38. Neither Academy, Gander, Cabelas or Sharpshooters had it when I checked a couple of weeks ago. Cabelas had 9mm and Gander had 22 mag.

Speer used to make a plastic shot holder and you could make your own snake shot. You do not have to have reloading equipment to do this. Also you can cut "wads" from card stock. A $30lb of Bullseye would give you enough powder to make over 1500 38 special rounds. There are several articles that you can google discussing various methods.

If you are referring to the shot capsules or homemade with cardboard wads, I will pass on a little personal experience. Most all recommendations are to use the minimum powder loads. In my experience the lower power has given the best "pattern" and still gives ample penetration. Seems more powder just blows holes in the pattern. I never got around to buying any bagged shot, would just cut apart some old shotgun ammo. Be careful shooting around rocks or equipment such as moldboard plow or harrows. The lead shot will/can ricochet back at you.

I dont need that many. CCI will probably make a run this fall or maybe not. I have some for my 22 mag. I may swap for a judge. Thanks for the replies.

Agree on the ricochet up close - didn't expect it to happen on an oak firewood pile, but I learned otherwise.......

What shot shells did you use to load your own? My CCI .38 and .44 factory shells are loaded with #12.

Marc

I cut open some dove loads and they would have been 7.5 or 8 size. My FiL had just retired and moved back to Texas, left me with several cases.

x2 - I bought some #9 12-ga shells (#9 shot is ideal size) - just a hand-full of the 12-ga shells provided enough shot for the whole box of capsules. The 'salvaged' shells (just the center of crimp opened to get #9 out) got filled back with some loose 7.5, so nothing wasted!

Pretty sure I saw some at bass pro earlier today. They also had 22lr and mag shots shells.

I carry a Colt revolver 22lr with the first three cylinders being shot shells and the others hollow point.
That gun has been the demise of several rattle bugs and a couple rabbits. up

Stopped in the Lubbock Cabelas Outpost this afternoon and they had 38 cal rat shot. Only other calibers I saw were 22 and 22 mag.
