I've packed several bulls and I don't know how many cows out on my back. It would kill me today if I had to do it. The best place to shoot an elk is not behind the shoulder or in the neck it's..... right by the road.

Good video. Shows the basics of quartering an elk gut-free. Best way to deal with it in the back country for sure.

I would love to be able to hunt like that here in Texas... Call Muley Mike on this forum. He has a small number of free range TX Elk hunts he lines up every year.

I've done the gutless method of field dressing. Great idea. I need that pack though. Gonna look for it online.
