if you're not seeing hogs that means they've moved on

I was able to keep 5 packs local , along with some big old boars to
keep the sows' piglet-factory going

here are 3 different packs

As mentioned in other posts, the neighbors dogs keep em moving, & with the 24-7-365 the hunting presser has made a big difference in fewer hog sighting, less yard & pasture damage.. Feel sorry for those others on here that have hog problems, gotta keep the pressure on, as many have said or they'll be back... Best wishes flag

Went out last night. Glad to report that the updated SW on the ATN xsight worked well. Got some great pics and vid of deer, but I was not looking for deer. No visuals on any hogs. NO signs of hogs on game cams either. Bummer.

I stopped keeping pics of hogs because I get so many.

Unless it's a giant or weird colored, it's like getting a bird or raccoon on camera. Don't care about them.

The hogs are staying in the wallers all day long , and are getting up right before dark to feed on the tall grass. They are moving in the dark too, but are so much easier to see during daylight hours in 2 to 6 foot tall grass. I caught them feeding really good a few days ago, the best Ive seen in a while. Wished I had that AR that the want to be criminal auction service failed to send me. They had a case opened up on them for keeping the gun and not sending it, and now all the sudden they've realized that OH I cant get away with this. Hope to have it next week with some death in the background ( pesky hogs). I really don't care to stay up all hours of the night walking around looking for hogs all by my self in the muggy heat. All my friends that used to do that with me are dead or married and lazy in the brain. up

Thanks, I won it in a timed auction and got it for probably 300 dollars cheaper than you could build it for. That's probably why they didn't want to send it my way. Ive got to tell you, walking around in tall grass with snake boots, back pack, bugs, skeeters, and less than enjoyable muggy East Texas heat will get the best of any age. Even wear a denim wrangler snap button shirt when the skeeters get viscous. You want to talk about getting the sweat on. I carry 2 bottles of water in july, and don't hit the woods till 8pm. normally leave at 10pm.

cheers my cams not set up for takimg pics at night... At OSBWMA were do most of my hog hunting, not limited ta small atea ta hunt... Whin easing threw the tall grass, its easy ta find the trails... Only hunts they have for hogs in warmer weather is May... If i go grab light long sleave shirt, tennishoes held tagether with ducktape, rofl ran out of pvc glue.... Hunt early mornings, coolest time of day.... Lots of downed trees, find wallows at root end & hogs like ta bed under the tree branches & shaded side of trunks..Here at my feeders & food plot, its set up at creek.. When find trails in tall grass, walk creek, limited, youll find the wallows were hogs lay ta cool down & use the mudd ta rid of fleas, ticks chiggers & such... Also look for the mudd rubs on trees... If ya notice, most of the hunters posting are using NV, & Thermal & covering big area's... Same when i'm hunting OSBWMA .. They get pushed their cause less hunting preasure surrounding land has 24-7-365 while WMA is limited ta day hunts & certain months.. My hunting is for grillen & chillen... Last hog seen on cam, posted in the photo section, April 9th.. Looking at files had another one show June 2nd... Thats last one... Best wishes flag

Durn man, that sounds like a dry spell. This time of year can be tuff, especially if you don't have some open terrain to be able to see at least ten feet past all the bushes and greenery. rifle

cheers nice AR.. It chambered in .223 ? Taken few hogs with the cheap 55gr fmj... Keep my shots to close range, mainly cause usedta taking heart & lung shots... It not big entry nor excet wound, most blood fills in body cavity, so not best trail... Friend & i came apone hog sleepen.. Snow on ground it jumped up, fired a round, hog kept going with limp in rear leg... We followed hog one on each side, hog stopped, friend was father back. Let go another round, hog dropped, followed hogs back trail, even in snow very little blood if any... Have great succes just close range.. Reason started this thread, hogs here been thinnrd out, even on WMA that hunt... & their was very few new threads bout hog hunten... Not expert, my guess they been thinned out like here, 24-7-365 hunten & all the new high-tech avalable, thinken it has lot ta do with, small hog count, realize not every one posts when they get a hog, & only small % of people who hunt... Best wishes... Looking forward ta hearing from ya... It dont even pay ta go sit in stand here.. Stay safe flag

Panther .223 I get small blood trails with the .223 whether its with SPs or FMJs. Head shots usually result in lots of blood and no running. Right now its hard to find them. They don't have to travel far to get greens and they don't wont to either. They will not hang out in the cut hay fields at all right now. When they get done cutting and bailing the hay my hog hunting my dry up for a while. I guess they like the heavy cover and grass in the face, they don't even have to look down. I watched them feed the other evening and they just walked around with their heads up cutting the tops of the tall stemmed grass in half, eating and walking.
That's a 55 grain .223 FMJ to the back of he head at 40 yards. Never moved after it hit the ground.

I haven't had any pigs on my property in over 6 years. I don't miss them, but I miss killing them.

cheers If i wanna get serious bout getting a hog for grillen & chillen i hit the OSBWMA... Finding hogs always been easy, got few videos in the public hunting form.. As friend keeps saying, need ta put down camera & pull de trigger.. rofl most of my posts been about hog hunten, health not best... When i huntsolo down thar, it depends on whi feeling that day, backpacking one out, & how far back in... Been their with friends park truck, & in bout 5ta10 minutes had 3hogs down, right place right time.. i didnt even fire a round, hogs run different direction.... Mostly go for exersice, lots of easen threw the woods... At house here pretty limited ta sitting & waiting, they not hitting corn... Checked creek no sign of hogs, or mud wallows, i prefure old school hunting, see the grass split, follow check for droppings & tracks, hog or deer... Lease usedta just sit by fresh sign, with pistal, flash light off, & go from their... My shots with .223 i limit ta 20 yrds, usualy in thick area's, hogs dont go far... Since starting this thread, noticed more posts about hogs down... Like said, this area been thinned, very few reports... Best wishes... flag

Ya Ive got a friend that likes the hog meat too, I prefer the longer legged deer or pronghorn. If beef prices stay up to the moon those occasional stray cows may start looking look the images of Wiley Coyote on WB cartoons. food grill

Seems like I have all the hogs in East Texas.... We have seen dozens and killed some every trip we have made in the past few months.... Look for them anywhere there is water now that it is hot and drying out.... Jameswaddill@aol.com
