Not looking to get into a dodge vs chevy vs ford. I'm in the market for a ATV finally. Tell me what you have and what you like.... what's held up. Also 2wd or 4wd, electric steering or electric shift?

I've narrowed it to a Honda Foreman and Polaris 570..... unless someone has better suggestions
Thanks

If those are your choices, I'd go for the Honda. Can't kill a Honda. If you change your own fluids and filters, there's a good chance your Honda will never see a service department. The woods are still full of Honda 300 Fourtrax that are older than dirt. That should be a hint. My rancher neighbor has an old Polaris that died a few years ago. Can't find anyone that can keep it running.

Another vote for Honda. I've got an '05 Rincon that I've beat upon religiously for the last 7 or 8 years. Change the oil one year, major service (check valves, all fluids, etc) the next year, repeat... It hasn't given me one lick of problem, even with the occasional job that falls well outside then manufacturer's intent. If this one ever goes, I'll buy a new one, exact same model.

I am in a similar situation. But I don't think the Hondas have been updated like thempolaris 570 has.

Let me know you decided and where you buy from.

Got 2, 2004 Honda Foremans. One is foot shift and one is electric thumb shift. Thumb shift is nice for going seat deep through water and still being able to shift, foot shift you can drive with one hand and have a beer in the other. One of them has over 15,000 miles, the other just barely 2,500 miles. Both have been flawless.

With that said, my next will be a Polaris Sprtsman 850. Excellent ride and tons of power. No idea when I'll buy it, my Hondas won't quit.

If the Yamaha Grizzly had been one of the OP's possible buys, I would definitely have voted for the Yamaha. My next ATV will be a Grizzly.

o had a Polaris 570. It was a great machine for the price. I like the automatic and tons of power. They have worked out the bugs on the 2015 models. I would buy one again

My Polaris has not failed me yet. Change fluids, filters and grease before each season. Never had a problem. Texas Sportsman Mag did survey of hunters choice of guns, equipment, etc and Polaris Ranger was choice for UTV.

X2. No issues with my 550 fuel injected with power steering. I haven't babied her by any means and she never lets me down. I don't really need the 28" Gorilla Siverbacks since I use it at the lease now, but she still does everything I need even with the extra wheel meat.

The other lease guys with UTV's are far more useful IMO.

To the op both are great bikes... I favor Honda but my buddy just got the Polaris your talking about and he works it hard... hasn't had any trouble out of it and apparently it was a good bit cheaper..

There was a Yamaha Wolverine on here not to long ago that would be a good grab..

Both are great bikes. My only issue with Honda is they are usually last in coming around in technology - ie push button 4wd, disc brakes, efi, etc. Also they typically have the least ground clearance and under powered for the CCs. But how they get around that is their motors are under much less compression than the others, hence why they typically last longer.

I duno i had a newer Forman that was a 500 i think and it had plenty of pep... It did have the dumb auto shift though... Does anyone even still make an oldschool basic atv? like foot shift and manual fuel injection..

That was a good point made by huntingag01. The reason I went with the present ATV (Yamaha Big Bear 400, 2000 model) instead of a Honda was that the Honda machines had poor ground clearance and low weight ratings for the front and rear racks. The Yamaha had better clearance and rack carrying weights. That, and I had found an ATV mechanic and asked him what he thought were the most bulletproof ATV's. He said that Honda and Yamaha were the toughest and the Yamaha had mil-spec wiring, where Honda didn't. So I went with the Yamaha. And 16 years later I've replaced fluids and filters and a battery or two, and the left rubber handlebar grip. Also replaced the left front headlight bulb, but that was due to granddaughter and not due to failure. So...in 16 years this thing has just run and run and run. Getting ugly, as the paint fades.

I have no issues drinking my beer at room temps, but most do. My beer is usually safe

Probably only a 400cc or below.

I got rid of the atv due to the fact it's hard to carry corn or guns or anything really. Fun to ride around on but found it not very useful. At lease for me it wasn't.

I have 2 Polaris now, 2011 and 1995 model. I use to have another Polaris and a Honda. To me Polaris are the most comfortable riding, great clearance and smooth auto. Cons are weak 1 1/4" hitch.

On the Honda, I like the longevity of the motor, but they are not very powerful, low clearance and my rear hitch was just a bar with no 2" receiver (plus you have to pay a premium for auto tranny).

If you want to use 2" ground equipment like Ground Hog Max, you need the strong 2" receiver like on the Artic Cats and Can-Am.

If I were to buy another new ATV it would need EFI, 2" receiver hitch, auto tranny and comfortable ride.

Here is this list.. Also if it says 500, it might not be a 500. I know the Yamaha 450 is a 421, Grizzly 700 is 686, etc.
