I have sent them FEDX and UPS both. They will try to tell you you can't at the UPS store but they don't know their own rules. I always list them as "machined parts" which in and of itself is true

I usually send them USPS. They just tell you not to advertise that it is a rifle in the box.

Not legally. It has to go to a class 3 FFL person. You can ship to and from a manufacture only. But it's only illegal if you get caught.

It is perfectly legal to ship long guns to other individuals in state. Handguns have to go through FFL if shipped in state. Any weapon shipped out of state to an individual has to go through FFL.

Gun Broker has a tutorial on legal shipping practices, and a downloadable PDF of the USPS regs and other carriers, on the right hand side of the Home Page. Read and understand them. I also carry a spare hard copy to leave behind with both UPS & USPS staff who "think" they know the ATF Reg's ...and don't. Very Helpful.

Yes. And it is also perfectly legal to ship guns out of state without an FFL - As long as you are shipping them to yourself, and the c/o person at the receiving end doesn't "take possession" of the guns.

My bad i did not read all the post and I was trying to ship a pistol at the time I ask a guy at cheeper than dirt
This is off ATF web

A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. A nonlicensee may not transfer any firearm to a nonlicensed resident of another state. The Postal Service recommends that longguns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms.

Yes Marc the last part of your post is correct as well. When I said individual I meant any person other than yourself.

This is correct. I would ship it fed ex ground or ups. I would not mess with the post office. I have had misinformed post office employees refuse to ship guns even though they can.

I keep a copy of the postal regs to show them if necessary.

Shipping a long gun within the state is easy at the post office. You don't have to tell them there is a gun in the box.

Wrong. Look at ATF faq and you will have the answer for yourself. Lots of bad info on threads like these.

He already corrected himself - see above.
There is a lot good information in this thread.

Didn't say this thread in particular. If folks would look at the source of the information instead of asking questions on online forums, there would be a lot less misinformation. I am not saying THF is bad, only that many threads are redundant and spread potentially false information.

You can ship it UPS, FedEx, or USPS. 99% of the UPS issues I've read about with UPS were UPS stores. UPS stores are not owned by UPS and can have their own rules that may or may not coincide with UPS rules. If a UPS store says you can't ship a firearm, it's probably a rule at that UPS store. If they tell you it's a UPS rule they are misinformed.

Funny how everyone has different answers. I called my local post office to ship a rifle in state. They told me it would have to be sent to a ffl. I guess I need to dig a little deeper.

They were wrong. If you want to use them to ship, I would take the ATF regulations and let them read it for themselves. Many postal employees don't know the law, and I'm sure some do but just don't want to mess with firearms.

The online gun auction sites usually have up to date and easy to understand pages on shipping. Most include source references as well. Gunbroker is a good one.

For verifying a FFL. Note that 03 Curio and Relic FFLs are not included in the ezcheck database.

Long guns are legal to ship IN STATE to a non FFL individual. I use the usps for such shipments.
