I have hunted south of silver the place I hunted had some similar country. The good country was good. The bad country was to thick to even think about hunting. Estimate huntable acres and determine if the price is worth it. Remember 10,000 with only 5000 huntable will not support as many hunters 6000 acres all huntable. Good luck.

The real thick country can hold quail but you have to grain to get them out. For birddog people it is not the best option in my opinion.

Anywhere there is sandy loam, yes. Not around cedars...as that's rockier type soil. Ran dogs through Mitchell County for many years, and always wanted to be around that sandier / shin oak country because it seemed to have the most consistent populations. Any moisture at all near the ground (low clouds, fog, etc) and those sticker burs become as soft as the swab on a qtip. The second that fog or low clouds burn off, dogs will lock up without boots. Good trick to know.
