Anyone try the Viper 2.5-10x44 PST (SFP model PST)?
Just ordered one and hoping it works out.

Lots of viper reviews on here. I don't think you'll have an issue with SFP on that model because you're going to be at 10x at any sort of distance. So it's effectively an FFP at the only distances that would matter.

If I'm shooting far enough to use the reticle I'll have the magnification turned up to 10X anyway. I've considered it for the AR carbine I rarely shoot.

I have that exact scope on my Rem 700 300 blk out in mil/mil with mil reticle. It works freakin' awesome and I love it. I wanted a basic scope with a normal power range with turrets to easily dial in loads with the 300 blk out. I still a lot of testing with my 300 blk out ammo, and this scope makes it easy.
I took my brother out to Top Gun a few weeks ago, and we were making head shots at 400 and 500 yards with the 115 Berger ammo with it. It was shooting very good and the scope makes it easy to dial and hold.

I have an moa version that has been problem free. It's on a spr that has been used for everything from hunting out to 800yd steel. Great scope.

I have the MOA version on a .17 HMR Nice features, appears to be well built. Glass isn't anything to write home to Mom about and it is fussy about eye placement (very narrow window). Serviceable scope for the money I guess.

I'm considering calling Vortex if my eye box is unacceptable and see what they say.
I'm not going to judge before I see the scope though.

The scope came it it is very nice. Much nicer than my first gen Viper non PST 1" tube 2-7x32 (not that the 2-7 is a bad scope).
The eye box is great, no complaints. The clarity is great. At 2x there is a little barrel distortion but nothing horrible.
Luckily I have a vx3 2.5-8x36mm side by side to judge the glass. There are mostly similarities. The viper is right there in terms of quality. Here are the minor deficiencies against the viper:
1. Colors really pop on the vx3 and the viper does not do that in the same way. Don't get me wrong the viper is not bad, just the vx3 pops. Kind of like canon vs nikon thing. You know the color pop on the vx3 may not even be natural, it may be a result of the coating.
2. The fixed parallax on the viper is not as good as the vx3. With the vx3 I can see clearly at 15 feet away where as the Viper PST does not get good until about 25 ft, and does not match the vx3's 15 foot focus level until a good 40 feet. This is an issue, not sure if it will bug me or not. If anyone wants to chime in, please do.
That's it for where the vx3 is better, in all other areas but one, the Viper is just as good.
The Viper is better at light gathering, but it's 44mm glass and 30mm tube where as the vx3 is 36mm glass and a 1" tube. I always considered that little vx3 my best light gathering scope, so to me, the fact that the PST is better is impressive. It's not tremendously better, but it's a little better.
Turrets and reticle; there is no comparison, Viper PST wins hands down.

Good review. I hope you remain happy with it. I am betting you will. You got the Mil version instead of MOA, correct?
