Noticed in Gander Mountain new sale pages, they list a Savage A 17 semi auto 17HMR. Anyone know anything about them? Is this part of the problem the early 17HMR autos had? "The A17 is built around a delayed blowback action that ensures proper timing for the heavier pressure of the 17 HMR round"
Thanks
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

You can use any 17 hmr ammo you want in the A 17, the CCI stuff is just the top notch ammo out right now.

There was a review done with the gun and various ammo, some of the standard loads were 3 moa at 100 yards while the cci a17 ammo was the most accurate.
I handled one at bass pro the other day, nothing spectacular regarding the fit and finish it is nice that it comes fitted with an accutrigger that doesn't require taking the stock off.
Price is decent.
Just waiting for more data when that special action gets gummed up and seeing if it will effect cycling

Went to Academy this afternoon and looked at the A 17. Seems the clip has to "click" when it's inserted and "clicked" again it you push it harder. Counter guy said they've sold about 5 without any coming back. Anyone know if there is a replacement clip, as the factory one is plastic

i'm waiting until the bull barrel version comes out like the B-mag one just did...
I have a HARD time believing 3 moa... every one would come back from every person I know.
We sold 2... no issues so far.
A-17 is the optimized cci load, havn't seen any real world chrono numbers
The mag looks like a BIG 10/22 mag... like JUST like it...

Mine made it back today from Savage. The firing pin was broke. More than likely little chance of range time with the current rains. Will try it out in a couple of days.

I just got a 17 WSM and its a pretty amazing little round, 3000FPS. There are a couple of companies out there making AR in this caliber but they are special order which also means expensive.

Two friends bought them.
First one would not feed at all from the magazines without jamming with the tip coming up too soon.(3 different magazines) Then he single loaded it, inserted magazine and when it fired the magazine would pop out. (All 3 magazines) He just got it back from Savage and he ran a couple of different mags through it with no malfunctions. (Same magazines) No accuracy report yet, as he just wanted to just check function before scoping it.
Second guy's would feed from magazine ok to load initially, but mag pops out upon firing. No resolution yet.
Savage has some issues with this model. Hope they get them ironed out.

Doesn't seem like a round one would want or need in semi-automatic....and it's a $400 gun at my local Walmart. I hope the issues are resolved. When I first heard of this concept I liked the idea until I thought about it.
Pass the gravy.

I bought a Rem 597 in 17 HMR and so far it's run like clockwork except for 2 bad rounds that were primed only. Yea I know they've been recalled but they're not getting this one back. Keep the rifle clean and it runs fine. 17 HMR ammo is not the best design, short neck and shoulder plus it seems to just be a dirty round as far as powder and residue build up. I'm on my third case of ammo on this one. If your running a 17 auto keep them suckers clean!
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.
