... Ok so I had a customer today tell me that he had a knife given to him in Vietnam. It was a German made knife... He carried it for 19 months until he came home... He had it until last year and then somebody broke into his house
and stole it. (DANG THIEVES, but that's another rant)

This pricked my memory, I feel like I heard of some German made knives that were given in vietnam and now were worth quite a bit... All I know is that it is a German made knife and had a special sheath with an eagle on it...

Sounds KINDA like a Ka-bar, but not quite... Any ideas on what i could be...

No idea and I spent 2 tours there. Knives were not given... they were issued. Most would buy there own because the issued knives were not that great. I had my wife send over a gerber dagger..then the military would not let me bring it back because it had a double edge confused2

Some of the SOG Recon and Bowie knifes were chrome plated and given as presentation pieces, the rest were technically issued. They were supplied through the CISO office and were considered an expendable item, they rarely got turned in, many of them made it back to the States. It begs the question if a knife is technically issued, but you never were required to turn it in, was it given you?

Gentleman was older... and didn't seem to have aged as gracefully as some... Didn't feel like SOG type... but hey isn't that one of the signs of a good one... He said it was given, but then I asked if it was issued and he said yes. IDK, for some reason I thought i remembered reading something about a knife kinda like this somewhere the other day...

Never heard of CISO. I broke 2 of these camillus blades. 1 was issued in the states and the other in RVN. I can certainly see why they were considered expendable...they were low bidder on the contract for sure.

Counter Insurgency Support Office out of Okinawa, they supplied SOG/CIA/SF, items not in the normal supply chain.
