OK, tried a new taxidermist for a couple of so-so WT I had. After about 20 months, got the first one back about a month ago. Really didn't have any place to hang it, so I just had it sitting on the couch. After a couple of days, I noticed a moth flying around - didn't think anything of it. Over the next 3 weeks I began to notice more and more moths - knew something had to be up. Tracked it down to this mount - appears to be infested with "clothing moths". OK, outside with it!

But now I have noticed the moths have spread throughout the house and find them on a number of other mounts. From what I understand, they will eat the hair/fur!

Any suggestions on what to do - have tens of thousands of dollars in mounts, so we are talking a significant investment.

I would deff call a trusted taxidermist at this point. It will be worth it to save your mounts

Call an exterminator and/or also run and get a bunch of moth traps from the store. We got infested by moths from something we bought and was in the pantry. We threw away a lot of groceries trying to get rid of them but the traps seem to work the best. I can't remember the name but they triangular shape cardboard with sticky stuff inside that had an odor that attracted the moths. In our case they were starting to expand to the rest of the house so the sooner you do something the better. They are kinda like fleas, they will start laying eggs in your house. It was not a fast process to get rid of them.

I remember how we would open a box of cereal and they would have somehow eaten through the cardboard and plastic. We had to put almost every edible product in the freezer to help get rid of them. Maybe these were a different type of moth but still the same, they will lay eggs in your house and multiply.

John if it is a cloth moth they will lay larvae which in turn will eat your mounts The best thing you can do is to call an exterminator immediately. Also they will get into your rugs and furniture and cloths too.

Was this from Dave's? Any idea what took so long getting it back? He has been dead on time with mine so far.

Do you think it was already in the mount or something that just happened around the house?
