I just bought a new barrel in 6.8 spc and new bolt in the same caliber. Rifle fires perfectly, ejects and feeds great, but when trying to manually eject the live round the bolt moves about 1/4"-3/8" and then stops. It takes a good amount of force to finish ejecting a live round. Im thinking a bad/out of spec bolt. Just wondered if anybody had any other tips or have had this problem before. It does do this. every time but about 50-60% of the time. Its name brand parts, i don't want to name brands till i find out exactly what was wrong. Thanks for any help. Ammo is factory hornady 120 sst. It does it with mag out of rifle also. Chamber is good and clean

Bolt dragging on the receiver? Look for scratches on the aluminum.

how many rounds have you fired through it? sounds like tight tolerances between the chamber and bolt.

A box only so far. It's good and lubed up also. The bolt moves pretty free in the carrier also. I'm going to try shooting it more this weekend also to see if it frees up also.

Have a buddy with a Palmetto upper and it doesn't like the factory Hornady 120 SSTs. Strange thing is it loves the factory Hornady 110gr VMax and 120SST handloads.
Have you tried other ammo?

It takes quite a few rounds to get one broke in. I have built some that are tight just lube the heck out of it and manually cycle the bolt a bunch then shoot the heck out of it.

Try different ammo. Sounds like a shoulder issue to me.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

Sucess, after 60 rounds of american eagle factory loads, which ejected easy the hornady factory ammo are pretty easy to eject now. I did a little chamber scrubbing also. Im Going to see what she will do on paper in the next week or so accuracy wise with the weather permitting. Its a ar performane 12.5" midlenght barrel on my sbr, yhm titanium suppressor, tod jarret yhm rifle hand guard, h2 buffer weight, extra powerbuffer spring, rock river varmint two stage trigger, which came out much lighterr then my other RRvarmint two stage trigger for some reason. Its so soft recoiling, my wife said its like a .22. Thanks for the info fellas.

I chroned the factory 120 sst in this 12.5" barrel and im getting a average of 2378 fps with the 120 grain sst. Seven groups average .92 at 100 yards Inclduing the first few groups which was with a clean barrel. Im sure the groups will keep getting smaller once i get a little copper in the barrel. Time to go bust a few hogs with it, but seems i may have to shoot them out of a boat before long with this system coming from the gulf. We just picked up almost 2" of rain since yesterday, so its going to be a little wet around here!
