I have a few cans of bulk ammo and a bunch of shotgun shells and id like to store it in the shed. I was thinking in a large tough box with a couple of those dehumidifier pads in it. The shed is water tight but it gets pretty warm in there in the summer. So is it ok to store in there?

Wrap boxes good in heavy plastic or put in 5 gal buckets and bury half way in ground. This keep them cool and dry. Or low on the ground at least.

If you have a Food Saver (vacume sealer) seal the ammo in those bags first.
If you don't have a Food Saver for storing meat, you need one anyway. I've had venison and beef that was frozen for 18 months that was just fine.

Probably a lot of it depends on how long you plan on storing it. Till next season I wouldn't worry about it much. For the next ten year? Who knows, not me.

Agreed on the Food Saver idea...I found two NY Strips from 2013 in the freezer two weeks ago. I was leary but they were great, like I had bought them that week. Color me impressed.

Just the excuse I need to go get one, I've always wanted one.. For the OP, I keep a loaded handgun in my car all the time and it gets mucho hot!! and it always works when I shoot it, so I guess it would be ok. I'm single, so I can store it inside wherever I want...probably why I'm single

The best 'short' and definitive answer I've seen is Guns & AMMO on heat boils down to room temp and low humidity is best.... decomp of the smokeless powders increases with Temperature and is significant above 150F

Here in the central mountain chain in New Mexico I wouldn't hesitate to do it. No humidity and it seldom gets above 88 degrees.
I did it when I lived in Georgia and the metallic cartridges were fine but not shot shells.
I went out squirrel hunting, pulled the trigger, heard a pop and watched the wad and shot go about ten yards and hit the ground. Repeated the process a few times with the same result. I swear I heard squirrels laughing.

In about 2007 had to dispose of a bunch of powder that had been stored in a metal building, probably since about 1993 or so. Some of the powder had clumped together and was clearly useless. Some of it just didn't smell right. I can't say whether the containers had or had not been opened at some point allowing hot, humid air into them, but I can say that the temperatures in that building probably reached 125 regularly in the summertime. I sure as heck would not store my powder in a non-temperature-controlled environment unless I absolutely had to. Same goes for ammo.
