Bought a Pre-64 Winchester Mod 70, .220 Swift off a THF Board Member. First time out today. Bore sighted and first shot on target was 5 ring at 11:30. Adjusted the scope down 8 clicks, Take a look at the NEXT 3 SHOTS!
All shots at 100 yards.
Keeper!

That's a great rifle! I have a few pre-64s and every one of them is a good shooter. Even have a pre-64 .220 Swift but haven't shot it yet. Hope it shoots just like that. up

I had a Pre-64 Model 70 in 220 Swift. Like yours, it was a good shooter. I used it a lot in South Texas for coyotes and such. Finally though, I decided that it was more valuable than I needed, so I decided to take the equity out of it and buy another 220. Finally found a Ruger 77V and sold the Winchester. Never been sorry for doing that.

It's been a number of years, but I think that the barrel on mine (and yours) is a blackened stainless that Winchester put on the 220 and the 264 back then.

603Country...You are correct, the Swift has a 26" Stainless Steel barrel. Since you cannot blue stainless, the barrel was plated with iron oxide before the blue was applied. The finish on the barrel almost looks like it has been parkerized (Blue).

Pre-64 Win .220 Swift - CLASSIC! Too bad these guns are so nice, yet so valuable, they usually become safe-queens.

Nice shooting!
