Going to build an AR10 in 6.5 creedmoor. Debating on going with a 18 or 20" barrel. Barrel will be threaded for future suppression. Any suggestions or experiences? Thanks

I'm no expert on the 6.5CM, but from what I've read on here and other places people say not to go below 24" on the 6.5CM
I have no idea how accurate that is, but that is what I've gathered on the subject.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

The 140 grain bullets will run 2760- 2800 fps in a 24" bolt gun. You will lose about 80-100 fps going to a gas gun, plus the ~25 fps per inch. So a 20" should run about 2600 fps with a 140 grain. The CM makes a good AR-10 round.

I just completed my 6.5 CM AR build. I used a JP barrel and it is 22". Very accurate rifle.

Lol see told you I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to 6.5CM.
I'm wondering what the 6.5CM has over the 308 in shorter barrels? I'm guessing the bullets have better BC than the 30 cal bullets? Out of my 16" gas gun I get 2510 average FPS. If you were to shorten the 20" down to 16" you'd be sitting right around 2500 FPS as well. I thought the big selling point for the 6.5CM was it's speed which made it very flat shooting. Again I have no clue about 6.5CM so please teach me LOL.

I would suggest 22" on the barrel. I built one last year and love it. My rifle will shoot 1/4-1/2 MOA all day long. I went and shot 60 rounds this am. Here is a silhouette I was shooting at 1012 yards. The 4 shot group at the bottom right is mine. The others were from a 260 that a guy was shooting next to me. I hand load and use 140 grain Amax bullets in front of 41 grains of H4350. The bullets are running around 2650 fps with this load. You can't push the 140s as hard in a gas gun. I ended up using a JP high pressure bolt and carrier, SLR gas block and a rounded JP ejector to minimize swipes. These are from a few months ago just short of 1000 100 yard load development

The CM makes a good AR-10 round. This. And shortening a barrel does not degrade consistency in a rifle barrel. You lose velocity, but you also reduce the sine wave of the barrel making the powder charge node wider. In other words, short barrels can often be less picky about what the charge weight is. If you wanted to regain some velocity due to the gasgun tax, you can drop down to 130 gr. bullets.

I too went with a JP 22 inch barrel in my AR 10 Creedmoor. In the AR I run the 123gr Scenars at 2880fps using IMR4007SSC powder.

"Gas gun tax". Hahaha I like that. I'm totally stealing that saying.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!
