I just started using a neck turning die and its helped to tighten my groups. I have the K&M, it seems to work alright but read some reviews that it was galling the brass, I haven't had it happen yet. Just wondering if they offer a die that may be better than the K&M?

I do a lot of my brass but not necessarily for every gun. It's a lot of work and time consuming.
Anyway, K&M is a great tool (you call it a die when it's not a die so I hope we talking about the same thing) for neck turning. If you use a cordless drill to turn cases it's easy to get it too hot and it will gall. You have to pay attention to the heat and keep the pilot lubed well.
Now, if your talking about expander mandrel and die that's different but you still need to lube the necks well and make sure that your expander mandrel and your neck turning pilot are same manufacturer...all mandrels are not the same so you want it to match your pilot or it could cause galling too.
Good luck and yes, it will improve the consistency of your neck tension and result in more accurate round to round.

Excuse me for calling it a die, its the neck turning K&M tool and I do it by hand and yes its time consuming, I call it therapy. I only do it for two of my guns a 7 mag and a 300 WM and I've been getting so pretty good results with turning the necks and using H1000 and Norma MRP. Usually running berger VLD's, Hybrids, Nosler BT. I still haven't tried the A-MAX. Thanks Judd for your info on the drill because I was going to try it with the drill.

I used to turn necks but when i started working more and more i stopped and didnt notice the loss of accuracy to warrant the time expense. But it didnt ever hurt anything.

I used to turn necks, but decided it was easier to just buy Norma and Lapua brass. Not cheaper, but easier.

No big deal on the die, I just wanted to make sure I was talking about the same thing It can definitely be therapeutic. I find I have less and less time for therapy though One of the reasons I use the drill it is faster but the speed the case spins on the pilot is what generates the heat. So you want to run it slow and keep it lubed. Some guys I've seen have two different turner tools and when one gets hot they lay it on a bag of frozen fruit then pick up the cooled one and rotate as they heat up and cool down. Enjoy it...it definitely improves your neck tension consistency which intern makes a gun more accurate. It's not a silver bullet and won't make a 1moa gun a 1/2 but it could take a 1/8" off a group. An idea I've been toying with lately is not doing the neck turning but having special mandrels used for sizing. The negative is I would size the brass down slightly tighter than I need to seat a bullet. Then run a perfectly sized mandrel in the neck to size in from the inside versus the outside. Meaning the outside of the neck might not be perfectly round but the inside would be and that is where the neck tension comes from. I would have to test the theory out to validate if it was as beneficial as turning the necks. It might not work as well because the pressure build up around the neck in the chamber could be different depending on the high and low spots in the brass. But it's something I've been thinking about. Good luck!

The only ones I ever neck turn are wildcats that require it after forming the brass by necking it down. Would probably help accuracy but just don't take the time on the others

I might if I was a competition shooter (like Judd) and high X-count might make the difference in winning and losing.
If I were more patient , I would, but Like mentioned above, for match loads I start with Lapua or Norma brass and hope they are always concentric

I neck turn only for 1 caliber and that is my Browning A-bolt in 22-250. I use that gun primarily for crow hunting and I can tell you that neck turning got me that last bit of accuracy I was searching for when shooting at crows at 300+ yards out. I'm not sure the gun became more accurate but my confidence went up and I was able to hit more than I was before. I use the case holder in a cordless drill to turn them and try and run it at a slow speed with plenty of lube to keep from generating heat. Other than that 1 caliber, it's just too time consuming to do on a regular basis. I think I did 100 cases at one time last time and that was enough to last me for a while.
It is a good way to spend time, unwind, and relax when I have time to do so.

I only neck turn one of my guns, its a custom 243ai that requires it. Because i only have one, i just use an inexpensive Hornady turning tool, it's a little finicky and time consuming, but it works. no experience with the k&M
