I consider myself the "prepared" type, and generally keep a decent bit of stuff in the truck in order to be prepared for whatever situation I may come across. That being said, I am always looking to update my setup in order to be prepared for a situation I may not have foreseen (and because I like cool stuff), so I would love to hear what y'all keep handy. Obviously what you carry is based on where you spend your time and what your capabilities are.
I just graduated from college and am now headed off to medical school, so I don't spend all that much time out in the sticks, however I do a good bit of back roads and empty highway driving. Here is what I keep on hand:
Shakespeare open faced rod w/ 4lb test line in the bed tucked under the tool box General truck toolbox stuff: tools, tie downs, jumper cables, road flares, etc Machete in the toolbox Hiking boots in the toolbox Tackle box Hatchet Well-stocked medical aid bag (full contents in a first aid thread from a while back) Grab 'n' go bag with gear I would want if I needed to leave my vehicle for some reason: extra clothes, belt, spare jacket Gerber LMF II knife Binoculars Baofeng UV5R radio About 50 extra rounds of 9mm; I carry a Glock 26 and 45 rounds on me Fire starting gear: vaseline soaked cotton balls, magnesium, lighters, matches Streamlight Protac
I'm sure I have left stuff out, and I am sure y'all will have great setups that I will learn a lot from.

Toilet paper. And now, at my age, Preperation H "totables" wipes. Lots of other stuff, but those are the top two.
Congratulations on graduating from a great school. One of my daughters graduated from there. Another one is now a physician. Congratulations too on being accepted to med school.

I carry a speed wrench 4-way lug wrench in my tool box. I hate those knuckle bustin OEM lug wrenches.

Rope, tow strap, trenching tool. I would forget the magnesium and Vaseline, you have road flares! Gloves and water. Other than that, looks good.

Gloves for hot jobs, I use the take off belts and radiator hoses as spares, and tie wire them in the grill bumper area. Can of Coleman fuel for emergency gas to share. Cell phone and CB radio for OTR travels.

Two tow straps, full first aid kit, some water, some tools, some rope, jumper cables, slime tire repair, extra ammo, knives, work and latex gloves, and safety glasses, paper towels, rags, acetaminophen, flash lights, a 12 volt compressor, jumper cables, a blanket, bug repellant, rain gear, spare reading glasses and some trash bags. And although I don't keep any guns in the truck when I'm not in it, when I am I'm prepared.

Tow strap, batter cables, 4-way, gloves, tire gauge, and a bible. Same here mostly. Hope I don't need to use any of the items, except for the last one!

A couple of days of must take meds, spare prescription glasses. If far off the beaten path or out of cell phone service a spare (old deep cycle) battery. Jumper cables are no good if there is no one around to give a jump.

At a minimum I always pack: 1) a tourniquet, and, 2) 1 gallon of potable water, 3) an Epi pen and a bottle of liquid benadryl. Just imagine if you are stung by a...something...way out in BFE and you have a severe allergic reaction, also known as anaphylaxis. With those last two items you live, without them you...well, you know. Also, agree with Bird dog: TP

Was it difficult to get the Epi pen? How do you carry it...have to stay in a cool place? Is the liquid Benadryl faster working than the tablets? Read a story a while back regarding a father and son who were out. Father was stung by something and had a severe reaction...this had happened before but with no problems. The son came upon the father and was able to get medical help and saved his life.. The Epi pen was mentioned at the time.

I'm in the medical field so have MD friends who write script for Epi pen. It should be good for 2 years. Yes, liquid benadryl will pass through stomach wall faster than a pill, which has to break down. Keep Epi pen in soft sided cooler with reusable ice gel pack.

The best thing I carry is an inverter. I also have a 340lb dewalt Impact wrench that runs off the inverter. I've run saws, drill, and an expensive off road air pump for 35" tires.
