So I seen on you-tube how to dig a water well by hand, and thought I'd try it. Purchased a solar pump off ebay & materials at local hardware store. My land is here on the coast, with a shallow water table I hit water at 13 feet.
Dug the pond area.

digging equipment.

digging the well hole.

hit water

installed 6" pipe for casing.

installed pump, solar panel, hose,

Presto------- water!!

Missed this pic of the materials used. If any of you have questions about doing this, check out videos on youtube. Pretty informative. It would be hard to do anyplace rocky or deep water table.

Were you required to register your well? State, county, etc. Any type permits?

There has been a lot of wells dug with that rig in Abilene, on eth northwest side of town water is about 18 to 22 feet down. Our well is 25 feet deep, the water table is at about 18 during normal years.

My first cousin dug one by hand in north west Abilene on Yorktown street about 45 years ago and made a well but it cost him a double hernia surgery.

That's just awesome!!! I've been looking into doing the same thing to fill up a tank to water my garden. Who did you buy from and how many gallons an hour are you able to get?

I never tasted the water, as it would be considered "brackish", and guessing it would be salty being just off the Gulf. The solar pump I got off ebay, and seems to be halfway quality material though they are all made in china so "buyer beware". Those cheaper plastic ones look worthless, so go with a stainless even though more $$. The digger & other materials came from the local lumber yard. Gallons per minute depends on depth of well, pump brand, sunshine, ect. Mine is about 35 gallon/minute. My pump came as a kit with everything enclosed and I got it for $225 on ebay. I have no ideal what it actually listed for.

Surprisingly, it seems to be working pretty good.

If you intend to use it as a stock tank it can be slightly brackish, less than 4000 ppm for cattle, otherwise it's a duck pond

Nice work.

Coincidentally, last week I was working at a gold mine on the Barwick Road not too far from Sioux Narrows. - nice country and loads of walleye.

Small world, hey Hirogen?? Barwick road, would that be the Blackhorse mine? My camp is out on Dryberry Lake, just up the river from Berry Lake. A long-g-g way from Texas!
