Well, it's been a while since I've posted on here & just wanted to share a few pics of the start of my new small hunting/cattle ranch on the coast near Seadrift. Guess I'm just a little excited to share. It was a sad day back in January, but I sold my hunting camp/land south of Rocksprings as I just couldn't handle the 320 mile 6 hour drive. Loved that place, with the amazing views & exotics running those hills. Just needed to get closer to my home base here on the coast. So luckily I put together some small tracts of 50 odd acres and I think I'm going to like this. There is good deer sign, hogs, bobwhite, turkey with some brushland next door. Nice spot for a feeder set-up. Plus, a couple acre shallow pond area for coastal waterfowl which is something I haven't hunted in a long time. This alone could be interesting. Also, I will be getting a few cows that will get me back to my roots growing up on a dairy farm. It will never be like the Hill Country, but I'm thinking in a couple years of improvements & I'll be set.

Congrats on the new place. 3/4 of the fun will be turning it into your style.

You picked a great area for some really good hunting and fishing. I am not far down the road, let me know when and I will be glad to come manage your project from the truck with a cooler full of adult beverages!!!!

Congratulations. I'm always meaning to drive down and meander around Seadrift and San Antonio Bay. Don't think we want to own a place, but maybe find a cabin to rent on a regular basis and hire a guide to take us out bay fishing from time to time. I think it's somewhat off the "beaten path" of stuff further south on the coast.
Have fun and good hunting.

Thanks guys! That drive to Rocksprings was killing me, so now the 4 miles from home will be simple. I will be starting from scratch, but I am excited 'cause I have some great land & structure/location to start with. Setting up a small camphouse & cattle working area, and the land will be improved towards wildlife. The waterfowl pond is going to be interesting since the migratory birds here on the coast are huge. I see this land only going up in value. Did I mention it came with some mineral rights? Yippie!!!

congrats
buying land is like buying a new house, lots of work but very satisfying
set up several feeders to get your wildlife moving
I bought some land last year and just bought some more this year
invest in a good chainsaw, pruners, hand saw and if you have spare cash get a small 50 hp tractor with front end loader

Congratulations on your new land.
On your pictures, I see houses from a distance. Will that be a concern for shooting?

Very cool. My brother has a place nearby (near Tivoli); has some great deer, hogs, and everything else down there.

That looks like a great starting point.

Thank you all for the great bunch of replies. I have a long list of projects that I'm hoping to complete over the next two years, which might be a bit of a demanding schedule but thinking I can do it. Hoping to set up a " perfect get-away" hunting camp & cattle ranch on a small scale. Gonna' be fun! Game trail entering land from next door. Should get some hog & deer action with a feeder set up here!
