Looking for any and all tips on duck hunting Lake Amistad. Boat or without a boat, what do y'all recommend and what kind of trips have you had down there? I don't duck hunt much but I have a buddy who does and wants to come stay with me and head out there some. Thanks!

I use to hunt out there quite a bit because I had family that lived on the lake. If you are going down there just to shoot ducks, go somewhere else. Especially if you don't have a boat. With a boat you can get to some better spots that you can squeeze limits out on. Hunting is better on the weekends (the lake doesn't get much pressure at the spots you need a boat for) because the boat traffic keeps the ducks moving on the main lake. Get there a day early and get your permit because they don't open early enough to get it the day of the hunt. Use to shoot pintails, wigeon, teal, and a few divers and got 1 or 2 mexican ducks.

I live 20 minutes from the lake. My buddy wants to get at some ducks seen out west without breaking the bank (he's from KY) and I would just be along to shoot a few and learn from him. I can procure a boat from a friend. Given that, do you think it's worth it?

Probably not worth it unless you put in lots of time to scout.

If your friend is coming all the way from KY, would probably be worth it just to go on a guided trip

Gun's don't kill people. The Government does.

I killed eight gophers last year and a purebred Tennessee walking horse that was looking at me funny.

Didn't a drug cartel kill some guy out there boating a few years ago?

The guy killed on a jet ski was on Falcon, which is much farther down the border. There are no duck guides on the lake becuase there aren't enough ducks for someone to make a living. Me and one of my border patrol buddies hunted it more than anyone else I ever saw out there. Send me a PM and I'll tell you the most consistent spot I ever found to kill them (you will need a boat).

It's really a great lake, fish deep for trophy bass and pluck a few divers as they swing by to see what's going on.
