I tried it and didn't like it, I like the simplicity of a wrist single caliper release. I hunt from the ground mostly too and I'd be forever losing it if it wasn't strapped to me!
I prefer meat in it's original packaging.

I shoot better with a thumb, but I shoot real relaxed..... I'm back to wrist. Shot a few thumb releases...literally

I tried one when I started shooting with a release. Then I got the Fletch-Hunter I have now and haven't looked back.

I like thumb releases. You can hold your thumb in one spot and roll your hand and it releases. Makes for a very consistent shot.

I switched to a thumb release a few years ago, after shooting a wrist release for 20+ years.
I'll never go back.
Cheap thumb releases are just that, cheap. They feel cheap, and they work cheap (but they do work).
I started out with an inexpensive TruFire, and it worked pretty good. Then I ponied up for a Carter, and it has been amazing. I have medium sized hands and my Big Kid (now called a Target 4+) fits perfect. I also have a Scott Longhorn hinge release that I use for target shooting.
I see a lot of people doing funny things with thumb releases; twisting their hand so the back of their hand is on their cheek, buying too darn big of a release, using their thumb to activate the release (hint: your thumb should not move).
I recommend getting fitted for one, and a lesson on how to shoot it so you can realize its full potential.

Started off with the thumb release but change over about 15 years ago. I like the wrist strap better now, Cobra from Academy.

I switched from a strap to thumb release about 5 months ago and don't plan on going back. I got a decent deal on a hotshot eclipse 4 finger release and love it. I shoot it with the heavier spring in and use back tension to fire. I feel like I have more control of drawing my bow back, and letting down also.

Does anyone shoot with just their fingers anymore? On traditional bows most shoot with fingers, compound releases are mostly used. With 75 to 80% letoff of a compound you do not get as clean of a release as on a traditional bow with the fingers
