I finally was able to put this new powder through it's paces with a 300 WM and 208 A-max with a customer's rifle for a custom load work up. This new IMR 7977 powder is similar in burn rate to H1000. 7977 did very well, and shot very good. I was able to get 2888 fps, low extreme spreads with no pressure signs in a 26" barrel 300 WM with 208 A-max, which is right in line with H1000. I think this IMR 7977 is a little faster burning than H1000, but for sure slower than 4831. I needed a few grains less to achieve the same speeds as H1000. With H1000 being hard to find, I'd recommend giving this powder a look for applications with 4831, R25, and H1000 reloading data (or any similar burn rates). It is a temp insensitive powder and has the copper fouling reducer built into the powder. I am adding this powder to my inventory to load from.

Chad do you think this would be a suitable replacement for h1000/retumbo for the 338 caliber family??

I am using it in a RCBS Chargemaster to throw the initial charge and trickling up on a digital scale. It meters fine for that. In a powder dump, I'm not sure. The kernels are your typical extruded powder.

Yes. My data shows it is within a grain or two less than H1000 for the same speeds with the 208 A-max. Any data with H1000, R25, 4831, etc, would be a great replacement or a good secondary, backup powder. I will always use H1000. But when I can not get H1000, this IMR 7977 will be the go to powder for me. I am always needing to have good powders I can rely on. And when you run out of your main powder, you must have a second powder to go to. This powder will be another choice, instead of H1000, to choose from when starting a load work up for customers.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm in the process of gathering components for my 338nm build that's underway. I can't find h1000 but have stumbled across 8lb jugs of ir 7977.

It should do fine for that.

Was thinking of trying this in my 26" 264 Win Mag. Think it might work? I've done just a little work-up with the H1000 I have, just not seeing any of that on the shelves.

Yes, it should be good in a 264 WM.

Have thought about trying 7977 in the 6.5-284, but will probably wait until the supply of H4831 is more depleted.

4166 is catching my attention though for several other rounds.
