We have 5 out of a total 10 spots available on our lease in Dickens County. This is part of the famous Pitchfork Ranch. Our pasture is a little over 9,700 acres. Access is year round with whitetail, mule deer, dove, quail, hogs, and varmints. Whitetail is MLD with season from Nov-Feb. Archery season in October. Mule deer and quail are under state seasons for Dickens County. 10 total bucks for the pasture with no more than 3 mule deer. Bucks must be mature. 135" minimum on whitetail and 150" minimum on MD. We prefer to only shoot MD 170+ but it is not a written rule. No reason to shoot 150" MD on this pasture. MD are tough to hunt as it is extremely rugged and season falls before the rut kicks in but they are there. Whitetail are best on the river bottoms with a feeder/stand setup.

Closet town is Spur, TX. This is the most rugged pasture of the entire ranch. It is a very good pasture for spot/stalk hunting. The pasture hunts huge. It is nothing but miles of canyons, draws, brazos river bottoms, and hills. Camp area for travel trailers with no electric available. Quail population is getting very good but none of the current group hunt quail. Guest are allowed but can not hunt deer. This pasture hunts huge due to all the vertical acreage but an ATV is almost a must. Lots of canyons can also only be accessed via foot due to the terrain. Only 3 hunters can kill mule deer? What about the other 7 hunters?

It has never happened before but if it did, the other 7 hunters would go back to whitetail hunting if they have not taken a whitetail or mule deer at that point. The odds of needing to take more than 3 170" mule deer off of the place are very slim. We have never ran into that situation before but if we did, no more mule deer for the year. We like our mule deer to have the chance to get 8-9 years old but that is why we have a chance at 200" deer each year too.
