Are these any good? Was thinking of a .223 prairie dog gun.

Check the rate of twist to be sure it's what you want. I seem to recall the rate of twist on the M7/.223 combo was fairly slow, which might well be preferred for PD.

What I'm looking at is just the action to do a build on.

The biggest advantage of the Model 7 over the 700 SA is that it's lighter. I don't see any advantage in the 7 except when building lightweight rifles, unless it's a 257 Roberts/7mm Mauser, which the 7 can accomadate while the 700 SA can't.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Great actions. Pretty much identical to the 700 just a little less metal.

I'm really tempted by the $220 blemished 300 blackout action Brownells has right now. Only problem is I already have a built 700 in 223 and Blackout.

See, that's what I'm looking at too. Instead of buying a donor gun this would be the wiser route. I'm not looking for an exceptional gun, just a fun one.

Model 7 action is good to go. Got a 308 in one that has been around forever.

I'd like to build a rifle on a Rem SA so as everyone suggested, I went to pawn shops looking for a "beater". Last shop guy I talked to just laughed & said everyone looking for one of those! So, my brownell bargin model 7 blem is now in transit to my FFL!...LOL
