I am building a 6.8-it has an 16" ARP barrel with an ALG 12" rail. I plan on mounting a 3x9 Nikon P-223 scope and M223 Mount off another rifle to start.

I'd like either folding or fixed sights that won;t interfere with the scope. These look kind of nice-

What advantage does the pro have when you're using them as a "back up" to a scope? I have the standard Magpul's on all of my ARs and they've never given me a problem at all. I mean if you're talking about a primary sight for an iron sight weapon I can see it but as a back up why would you spend that much more?

Anything else will be in the way of mounting the scope, especially what you linked to. If you decide to buy what you linked too, then you're going to have to move the scope forward and in turn move the buttstock in, about to the point of your nose touching the charging handle. If you go with the MBUS Pro it will hide under the scope, but you would need quick release base for easy scope removal. Just my .02

Offset sights? Hard to fire accurately at a distance and up close no point to have anything but fixed.. I agree when I hear them called emergency slights not back up.

I've always thought the set-up Bigpig showed would be the best of both worlds. Zero the irons for 50 yards, and zero the scope for 100. Best of both worlds. I don't have offset sighta yet because there appears to be no great option for lefties without mounting the rear aperature backwards.

The sights you linked won't work with a magnified optic. You can not co-witness with a magnified optic like you can a Red Dot sight or Holo sight. So fixed backup sights are a no go. You can have a fixed sight in the front and you won't really see it unless you're on a lower power magnification then you might get some shadow. A fixed back sight will get in the way of the scope. You'd have to run a flip up back sight and since you don't have a fixed sight on the front I'd run a flip up sight up front as well, no need in a fixed sight up front if you don't already have the A2 sight aperture up there.

Also, I haven't looked at them in a while, but if the mount isn't a QD mount there is no need in even spending money on BUIS because you'll never be able to use them. If your optic went down you wouldn't be able to remove the optic and mount to even flip the back sight up so it would be useless. Save the money and put it towards a trigger.

The offset sights that BigPig linked in the picture would be the right direction if you just had to have BUIS, but the offset sights add bulk to the gun and they will snag up on almost anything. If you plan on using this gun for hunting and you're walking through brush and weeds, it will be snagtastic for sure.

Here is one of my guns with BUIS, you can see the back sight sits under the magnified optic. My mount is a Larue SPR-E with the QD levers so it takes all of 2 seconds to get off if need be. Then I could flip up the sights and use the irons. Would this ever happen? I seriously doubt it, but its my SHTF gun and have them there just in case. I don't run BUIS on any of my other guns, this is the only one.

I agree with this, it's very hard to fire accurately, which is why I suggested flip up sights mounted on the top with quick release base for the optic. I admit, I had a small red dot on a 45* for a close range quick shot and it worked well and is prob much easier to accquire than iron sights, AND JUST LIKE THAT I LOST MY THOUGHTS... NEED MORE COFFEE

KROYAL, what optic are you using?

The SWFA 1-4X MIL/MIL, love this little scope. Very clear glass. For the price and comparisons to other 1-4x scopes it can't be beat. Only one that comes close in the price range is the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x, but I like the reticle of the SWFA a lot better and .10MIL adjustments compared to the Vortex .20MIL adjustments.
