Looked at some Live Oak and Spanish Oak this afternoon. Never seen so many acorns growing on Oaks. Should cut your corn bill way down.

We don't have acorns in south or west Texas thank god

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

We had a bumper crop last year don't think it could be much heavier. Deer sure didn't come to the feeders.

At the place up near Brady we got a late freeze last year (April 11, I think). The trees all looked like they had burned. They got leaves finally and looked good, but almost no acorns. This year right as the trees were getting their new growth we got a hail storm that ripped them up pretty good. I hope it didn't hurt the acorns, we'll see.

Depends on your perspective. Lots of acorns also means heavily dispersed animal traffic. Corn concentrates the traffic to a much smaller area when other resources are lacking. So the savings in $ on corn will mean potentially less opportunities for those with limited amounts of time to hunt.

This. If you're using corn as a food supplement you're way off base anyway. It's just an attractant. But it is going to be a great year for healthy animals. up

scratch If what little i learned in english class, between day dreaming about wondering about the woods, WMA booklet calls it baiting in the prohibited acts not an expert... i put supplements out for a healthier animal & focused more on the other wild game ta boost deer numbers up... Took awhile, payed off, it went to a 4deer county... flag

So glad my grand-pappy and pappy planted Live Oaks around the Feeders (many years ago). Works for all occasions!

Anthrax will be bad if the biting flies bloom at the same time the spores do. That's the "perfect" storm.

And I've had the same experience with corn.

Corn will probably go to $20 a bag this year (drowned crops)
RICE, & MUSHROOMS will be free! (growing wild everywhere!)

How much wetter than normal, does it need to be before you can expect problems, assuming a normal summer drying out with heat? I checked the accumulated percipitation map, from 1 Oct, which shows most of Val Verde county in th two bands, from -2 to + 4 inches, parts of Uvalde, Real, and Edwards are in the +8 to 12 inch band.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Eaten rice right now... rofl magority of my hunting is WMA no baiting.. Even whin it went 4 deer county, did foodplot, feeders, suplements here at house & did archery & the hog hunts on WMA... Could have filled deer tags many times... Choose archery over rifle, for deer hunts.. bang Now worried bout this anthrex... flag
