Fought the mud and skeeters (and they were bad!) to get to the spillway this morning. This is the 3rd time in my life to see it. It's mesmerizing, to me. Tried to post a vid too, but it's not working right, or I don't know how.

All that's left of Highport is just a parking lot, lol. And there isn't much of it! The Island bar & grill is up to the roof! Lots of boat houses that no one can get to.
The German POW camp was quiet a ways off from the dam, supposedly. I know "about" where it was and I'd like to do a little metal detecting there, lol.

I have only personally seen that a couple times and that was way back in the 80's, both Whitney and Texoma reached the limit. BTW, I remember striper being awesome at Whitney a couple years later, of course that was before the algae blooms or whatever that crap is.

Great photo up

The stripers are biting good right now, so I've been told. Of course, there is no where to launch a boat at the moment, lol.

I believe you are referring to Camp Howze which was NW of Gainesville on FM 1207, The Gaiinesville Municipal airport is located in theat area. In the '40s it was better knowm for its military training.
Highport is running boat "ferry" for people wishing to get to their boats at the boat houses.

Thanks everybody! It's way cooler in person. Heck, you can hear it at least a quarter mile away. That's about how far away you have to park from it. Then, traipse thru the jungle, fire ants, mud and skeeters. The wife said I had a tick on me, but she's about half goofy, lol. It was prolly a doodlebug.

I thought it was where the old TMC Hospital was?

There were a couple of camps, actually. And one moved over by the spillway, but I'm not sure exactly where.

What is the likely hood of the water taking out the bridge again that is between Denison and the road over the Dam. I don't know if I have seen the new bridge since it was taken out in 90s.

I got a call from a guy that lives down the road from that bridge. He said the hwy dept. closed that road late yesterday evening. At that time I don't think the road had been destroyed, but it probably has by now. H. Ross Perot paid to have it fixed in '90. The state wasn't fast enough to suit him, I guess.
