This may be a chicken or the egg but the reason we have so many new LR scopes for sportsmen IMO is the fact that now days affordable rangefinders make it possible for more people to think about being able to make that long shot.
30 years ago how many folks owned a RF that could range a deer at 500 yards?

The reliable range finder absolutely goes hand in habd with thw rifle scope built to make the shot.

Just to mention something...in dim light (my often real world hunting situations) it's hard to see the mil marks if you are going to use them rather than dialing. The marks are small and close together.

Perhaps you are referring to a point blank setup?

If the bullet is fast enough with high BC you can zero at 300 and not even adjust any holdovers within 400yards and take down most game.
