So looking to get a shotgun. My buddy is pushing me on a 870. Held a benelli and just like the feel. Thicker and heavier which I like. I know the 870 is very popular, lots of aftermarket stuff, any reason why I shouldn't get the supernova anyway? Both pumps (can't afford an auto at this time). Hunting dove/ duck mainly. Any difference in recoil? Probably won't be shooting more than 3 in shells. Have not shot either. Thanks

I've had the supernova for about 4 yrs now and have not had any problems at all. Overall I think the supernova is better built than the new 870s. About after market parts for mods the 870 will be hard to beat. Recoil, the supernova has a very nice recoil pad and a the stock has something to make the felt recoil less noticeable (not sure what the marketing term is); I shoot doves only thus haven't shot 3 or 3-1/2 shells so not sure about those but the 2-3/4 are a pleasure to shoot.

I use my super nova almost exclusively now for birds and clays. Never had a problem with it. I shoot sand hill crane with 3.5 inch shells, dove and quail with 2.75. It eats them all just fine. You will like it.
Don't own an 870.

The super nova is pretty much as robust as they get.
If you don't mind weight and stiff action it won't do you wrong. Personally I like the BPS better but I couldn't kill me old nova if I tried

I have shot a new 870 and a Nova and the Nova is heads and tails better than the 870. Fit and finish is better, function, I really like them a lot.
If I were to buy a pump shotgun today it would be between a browning BPS or a Nova. Remington's quality control is an absolute joke and it will take some work for them to get another spot on my gun rack.

The 870 just felt narrow and off a little. Not knocking them, I know they are loved by many. Never considered the browning bps. I have read they tend to rust?! Any experience with that? I know the benelli is not the most beautiful gun, but more interested in quality, ease is use and longevity. Gonna take a good luck at bps.

I would not let that be the deciding factor in purchasing a firearm for me because it is easy to prevent. For my shotguns I just wipe them down with Balistol after the season is over or if they get rained on.

Browning bps is a nice looking gun. Seems like it's hard to disassemble and reassemble according to videos. Browning even recommends using a gunsmith.
