Therm-App just went on sale for $939 on their web site, typically they are $1,600

At this price, this is the best value for a spotting thermal device on the market right now.

Wow, epic fail on their part that it won't work with Apple, but $939 is pretty good.

Anybody use one? How accurate is that 500m factoid?

will detect at 500m, but I don't think you'll be able to determine a Hog vs. a Deer at that range, but will get you traveling in the right direction.

this photo is @150m +- watermark can be removed.

Also, more apps are coming out on the Google play store are that are making the resolution a lot better.

Sorry about no Apple support, they say it's coming, you can buy a old android phone (bad ESN) on ebay for around $70, still cheaper that a other thermal spotting scopes and with a lot more functions.

How would this compare to something like the Pulsar HD19A?

Never buy a product based on the promised of improvements of the future. That is a sucker play. If they come, great, but the promise of such improvements, until real and in place, are just wishful thinking, sort of like the X-Sight.

Compare the specs for yourself. Think about how much it is going to run down your phone. Yes, it is cheaper at just under $1K, but it only works with a phone. The HD19A will run for years by itself. If something happens to Therm App and they stop making app upgrades to correspond with new phones, the longevity of your unit will be tied to the latest version app/phone compatibility. After than, you have a worthless unit.

Just to clarify a few this from an actual user of the product.

"Never buy a product based on the promised of improvements of the future. That is a sucker play. If they come, great, but the promise of such improvements, until real and in place, are just wishful thinking, sort of like the X-Sight."

The additional apps that are starting to pop up on the Google Play store are from third party supporters because of the popularity of the product, these apps are not affiliated with Therm-app, that's the beauty of this open source thermal device.... first of its kind.

"Think about how much it is going to run down your phone"

The device pulls very little power from phone.

"but it only works with a phone"

That's the beauty of it, not a negative! phones a very cheap to replace. and you have a 5" display for a view finder!!

If something happens to Therm App

Therm-App is made by Opgal and has been around for 30 years, what if Pulsar goes out of business.... just saying.

Pulsar HD19A is a great product and a friend has one and I like it, but I just wanted to clear up a few things with the therm app.

For half the price of the HD19A, it would likely be worth it. What's the Pulsar going to be worth in three years anyway?

Two totally different designs - I wouldn't bother trying to crown one a better option than the other for hunting purposes.

That said the Pulsar / FLIR / IR PATROL / EOTECH / etc monoculars provide you with some level of weatherproofing, internal battery operation with options for external power supplys, point and click operation, eye shields for daylight use and cutting down on screen splash at night, rugged design, and an intergrated lens secured by the manufactuer.

Of course the above configuration costs at least 1700 and go up to 5k or more

Again, I'm not saying the above detracts from or makes these any better than a product like the Therm-App.

I agree weatherproofing maybe an issue for some, but I can tell you driving down a dirt road at 50mph at night with the Therm-app hanging out the window is a lot safer than driving with a typical monocular in one eye and trying to drive with your other hand, This I can tell you from experience... LOL!!!!

This doesn't mean that they will continue to be produced if the product fails. Also a negative of open source 3rd party apps is the security risks that come with them.

Buying on a promise of what isn't actually there yet is just plain stupid.

Key word search in Google Play revealed exactly ONE Therm-App app and it was Therm-App Basic. What are all these other programs that are popping up? A photo editor called Glitch! does come up in the search as well as a book on thermography, but neither runs the Therm-App hardware.

Look a little harder:

.

What the Hack does that mean? just about every app in any smart phone is 3rd party.... seriously, you actually said that!!!!

I'm not sure what's going on with this thread, all I did was try to inform consumers of a low cost alternative thermal spotting scope, and all I see is comments for apparent Pulsar salesman's.

Take if from someone that ACCUALLY owns this device and several other thermals/IR scope, this is a VERY good low cost thermal spotting scope.

also, don't take my word for it look at the reviews on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Therm-App-Android-...words=therm+app

No reviews on amazon for the Pulsar HD19A??? what up with that?
