This is my prairie dog killin partner's rifle I worked a load up for. I performed a ladder test last week shooting 60 gr Hornady V-Max atop H-Varget. This morning I shot the two 5 shot groups that the ladder test told me where the nodes were. This rifle is unmodified, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it shot.

First test group. Yes that is 5 shots, two punched the same hole.

Second test group. The vertical spread isn't quite as good. This is a slightly compressed load, but the rifle seemed to shoot it well and it had an ES of 20 fps. I'm going to go with this load. Made 3040 fps average.

That's good to know, I've been seriously looking at the Mossberg MVP LR rifle. Looks like a really good value for the money.

What twist are the Mossberg Jason?

These are sleeper guns, seeing many of these "cheap" guns really shooting well..

We wanted a boattail bullet but couldn't get what we wanted so I said I'd make the V-max work. I didn't lie. grin

Nice work!

My brother has a Mossberg 100 ATR in 270 that's a shooter too. Not that good though!

Second group is 26.6 gr of Varget. I have a .100" jump to lands so it will fit in the mag. Wasn't happy about all the freebore but that doesn't surprise me with a mass produced rifle.

I have one of the same 'toys' in my rack. H355 is another good powder for the 55 and 60 grain pills.

Planning on stretching out some loads this weekend if the rain gives me a break.

for an inexpensive rifle, the MVP is a very pleasant and accurate surprise.

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.

Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

Cabelas Allen had some Varget, close to $30 a pound but that's the world we live in now.

Just a tad compressed. I ran it up to 27.0 gr. That was very compressed! Powder was up in the neck about 1/16" from the end of the brass. Flow back on the primer was the only sign of pressure. And that's not really a sign.
