Can some of you guys give me a review on the Vortex Viper? I'm looking at a HS
2.5-10x44 Dead Hold BDC reticle w/30mm tube. Never owned a Vortex before or a 30mm tube.
Thx ........

I have one Vortex Viper scope with the 30mm tube. I like it just fine. Been hunting with it for a year or more and plan to keep using it. And I'm pretty much a Leupold guy.

I have the Viper PST, I like it. Does everything I ask it too. The mechanicals are excellent and it tracks perfectly, the glass is good, I've seen better and I've seen a whole lot worse. You get a good value with their brand IMO

bigdog, I had heard so much about the Vortex Viper PST FFP scopes that I got one in 4-16 power. I tell myself and others that the glass isn't quite as good as the Leupold VX3, but heck...I don't know that for sure. What I do know is that I like the scope and have no complaints of any consequence. The scope power ring is pretty tight and the illumination is too bright for dim light hunting, even at the lowest setting, but neither of those are significant to me.

The thing that tipped me over to the Vortex was the Mil/Mil turrets and their version of Zero Stop. After much research, it seemed plain that the Vortex PST had what I needed and for a price less than $1k, and it was still a light scope. I have it on a gun that is light, and I really like it, so I didn't want to turn it into a boat anchor with some 44 ounce scope. As for the turrets and all, if you only shoot at 300 yards or so, you don't need the turrets and all. It starts to matter as you approach 400 yards and I think is necessary at 500 and beyond. BDC lines on a scope can get you close, but won't give you real precision. I did use the BDC on a scope for a shot on a pig at 500 yards, and it worked, but only because I had a line for that exact distance. Had the pig been at 537 yards, I'd have been guessing. Anyway, that's my take on it. I think you'll be happy with the Vortex.

The viper I have seems to have good mechanics and glass but the eye relief and eye box are horrible in my opinion. It's also one of the 6.5-20 vipers that they no longer make.

I have a 4x16 viper. I have enjoyed it and don't regret it.

Like wp75169 says the eye relief/eye box can be a little picky, but I also think that is due in part to my setup. I need a higher comb stock or a pack/estra cheek piece to raise my line of sight, I think that is what my real issue is.

I have absolutely no problems with eye relief or anything like it. I set the Vortex up like I do the Leupolds, and I don't see any noticeable difference in use.

Not so much eye relieve, but with my leupold I can move my head around quite a bit and still get a full clear picture in the scope, with the vortex the window for a full clear round sight picture is much smaller for me.

6-24 X Viper PST Mil/Mil FFP

Glass is good. I give it an B+ to A-

Turrets feel good, and with the three screw design afford getting the turrets perfectly lined up.

Turrets track well, return and hold zero

Eye relief is the worst I have seen in the $1k+ scopes of this type.

Scope is very light weight as compared to all other in its' category of features.

I have a vx3 2.5-8x and the glass and eye box are great.
At dusk it seems to defy the laws of physics.

I also have a basic Vortex Viper 2-7x and the glass is pretty good
but not on par with the vx3. I have not looked through a Viper PST.

Mine is a 2.5 x 10 x 44MM Viper PST.

Lots of nice features, reticle is well done, scope looks and feels well made.

Glass is "so-so" particularly in low light. Cheek weld and eye position very critical (if you don't stay exactly in that sweet spot) you'll lose field of view quickly.

Vortex needs to dump the two highest settings on the illuminated reticle and add them to the lower end (less bright).

My opinion: Feature full. But would benefit from better glass. And don't ask them where they have the glass made, they won't tell you.

I have to of the original Vipers before they split them into the HS and PST lines. As mentioned before the eye box and relief are lacking and they are are worse in low light than any other scope I own which includes Leupold, Bushnell, Burris, Meopta, Zeiss and Clearidge.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

I have the PST 2.5x10 on my AR-10, and pretty much echo what everyone says. I just don't get the eye relief. Beyond that I love the scope.

I've got a 2.5-10 pst on an AR and a 6-24 PST on a Lapua. Eye relief has not been an issue for me. They are not as clear as Zeiss but clear enough to be a pretty good value with the features they have.

I put a HS 4-16X44 on my wife's 243. It is a good scope and you can't beat the warranty . I like the turrets and the glass is more than good enough for my use.

I have a 6.5x20 Viper. Very solid scope! In my opinion the glass is not as clear as a VX3 but I also paid less than half the price for it as well. I was very skeptical when I bought it but had heard so many great things about them so I decided to give them a shot. Had mine about 3 or 4 years now and zero complaints! Would recommend them all day long.
