I went out last night and took the below picture. I lightly squeezed a couple of the redder ones but they are hard as a rock still... and yes, this little tree is loaded down again, guess the halogen light and tarp must have worked during those last couple of freezes in late January thru the end of Feb.

hmmm after we got all done, I realized the recipe we were using that we doubled said it should yield 7 quarts (which would actually be 14 quarts since we doubled the recipe) ... ummmm, 6 quarts and 1 pint, WTHeck??? 8 cups of cut up peaches and 11 cups of sugar along with two boxes of Sure-Gel and it only gave us 6.5 quarts ... where did the rest go????

I will have to check on what type it is. We planted that little thing in November 2012, it was covered in peaches by the following spring and produced a bunch of peaches (we didn't remove any of the fruit early spring) that almost broke the limbs off the tree. Yes, 3 months in the ground it was covered in blooms and 7 months later produced lots of peaches. Winter of 2013/2014 we got hit with a cold snap and hung incandescent shop drop cords throughout the tree to help keep it warm enough but virtually no fruit made it to spring '14. With the cooler winter this past year, I built a 6'x6' x ~10' tall frame, when it started blooming, I wrapped the frame with a large garden cloth (bought at Home Depot) and put a dual halogen shop light on a stand that was turned on any time the temps were to drop below about 34 degrees ... we left that shop light out with the wrap in place until early March after the last possible chance of a freeze.

Sam Houston might be what it is ... it has a very low chill rate compared to other varieties sold in our area and puts blooms on way early based off how cold the earlier winter is. This one had fully bloomed by mid-late January this year and I was scared of loosing all the blooms/fruit due to later cold spells.

Sounds just like the 2 my dad planted 2 yeas ago. He didn't remove any the first year and he had all kinds of contraptions supporting the limbs. The golf course people where he lives are always drive by his place and shaking there head. He got a huge blow up snake like 6 feet long he keeps it hung in the tree and says it keeps the birds and squirrels away. He moves it around every few days.
